I got home from work today and got a package of stuff I had ordered from Mycomicshop.com. It was all packaged well in the box, but a number of books had exactly the same kind of damage. About a third of the books had a 1" ding in the corner in exactly the same place. The comics were packaged in a few separate "bundles", meaning a number of comic in one larger comic bag. It is like someone dropped one of these bundles after it was bundled up, but before it was all packaged together in the box.

This is one of those, "is it worth it?" situations.

These are almost all mid to later Valiant issues, and a few more common pre-Unitys in there, but nothing spectacular. I paid between $1 - $2 for each book. They were advertised as NM though, and now they are probably about F/VF. They were probably about VF/NM before this damage. It only effects a dozen books tops.

Has anyone dealt with damaged books from mycomicshop.com? Do you know what to expect from them? I want the books, but I want them in the condition they sold them to me in, NM.

I am very happy with most of the order, which included NM copies of Magnus 2, 3, 4 and 7 for $1.50 each.

Any advice/past experience?

The box o' comics I received from LoneStar was fine. It does seem that yours may have been dropped on the way to your box, which is pretty frustrating. :(

Give them a call and see what they say. Maybe send them a pic?

Ive never had to call them so I dont know what their customer service is like, or even if it exists.

Im glad the earlier ones came through looking nice;)

I've ordered from them several times. Once, they sent me the wrong issue of x-o (it was a cheap one) and they just credited my account and let me keep the wrong one. I had explained that I didn't see the need in paying the postage for such small amount.

Also, I complained about the stated NM condition of several issues. They said they'd refund my money if I sent them back. Again, it was a bunch of cheap common valiants, so I decided to just keep them instead of going through the hassle of returning.

I ordered a Harby Bluebird from there when I first started collecting and they sent the regular one. When I called them she said to send it back and they would do the exchange. I did it by the letter and got my bluebird. I went to order the rest of what they had to fill the gaps in my VH1 collection and I had a $3 credit when I went to checkout so I am thinking this may have been from the shipping. Either way it made up for the shipping.

I ordered from them once. No problems there. If there was a problem I would've only sent them back if it was a high dollar book like a Unity Red. Otherwise, it's not worth the time for $1 books.

There has been quite a few people who have had problems with the condition of their books from Lonestar, but they seem to make it good in the end. Lonestar doesn't take as much care with cheaper books as they do the more expensive ones so keep that in mind when you order from them.

I got one dinged up batch from them as well but had no problems four or five other times.

Could this bundle have moved within the box? In that case there might also be damage like that.

I've had this happen with a few of my orders from them. It's like one of their packers "stacks" the books by pounding them on the corner. Kind of irratating and *SQUEE* me off since most of the books had dinged corners. I never did call them about it though, as I figured it probably wouldn't be worth the hassle. That and I was lazy. :P They really should be more careful in packing though, I like my stuff NM.

I understand everyone's issue here, and the above named seller is certainly not alone. I live in Maine, and in the winter it's not uncommon to have lousy weather. I have had packages stuffed into my oversized mailbox in just about every way imaginable. My regular carrier is not that bad, but you never know when the guy is gonna be on vacation or whatever. I have a note on the inside of my mailbox plain as day asking them to be carefull stuffing envelopes and things but in reality they don't care. I am surprised I've never found a package on the ground in March after the snowbanks melt.

My neighbor is a mail carrier and I can tell you, unless it's in a Priority Mail box they treat any package pretty much like *SQUEE*. That's why I only ship my orders boxed. There are some damage proof methods that I have seen books shipped media mail, but my postmaster will not accept my stuff that way. Also, I just don't have the time for arts and crafts when it comes to shipping and ebay auctions. I get the free box, some cardboard (usually recycled from my purchases), some bubble wrap, in the free box and off it goes. It does cost my buyers a little more, but I really haven't had any complaints, on the contrary, my feedback often comments on good shipping and packing.

The bundle was taped to a larger piece of carboard that fit snug in the box so the bundle wouldn't move around, so I don't think this was the case.

I thought they did a really good job with the packaging, I couldn't realyl expect much better. It seems the damage had to be done before it was shipped.


Thanks for the responses guys, I think I'll figure out how many books got damaged, figure out what I would pay for books in the condition I got, and if the difference between what I paid and what I would pay for what I got is high enough, I'll contact them.
