Wish I did brother. I can't seem to get my grubby hands on another copy.
Here's a VF/NM CEAR that I'm selling this week. I decided to upgrade my copy instead of CGCing the better copy and selling it. Thanks!

Sadly, I have a mental block with paying obscene prices for modern books. I just can't bring myself to do it. So, unless I can get the CEAR for like $15-$20, I just can't.

It took me five YEARS of watching MM #15 sell for $50-$100 to FINALLY buy a complete set for $75. ;) And believe you me, it hurt to do that. The 'look, dumbass, you can SELL the rest of the set for $75 and KEEP the damn #15 for FREE. DUH!' effect finally kicked in. Even if I KNOW I can flip it on the 'bay for more, I still have a tough time paying more than *I* want to pay for modern books.

I do, however, have large SWATHS of killer Gold, Silver, and Bronze that I would be willing to TRADE for a CEAR. ;)
Hey, me too! It's almost like a phobia. I'll make exception for items I really, really want to cross off of my want list however.

I'll offer the next CEAR I find to you as trade bait.... (it took me years to find the first one, so don't hold your breath, but we collectors are a patient lot, aren't we?)

Not the cheapest, but much cheaper than they would have gone if they were advertised on this site.

I have never seen the Deathmate sheet for auction before. I was able to get the seller to drop the BIN by $10 and it is pristine. The Unity uncut is not perfect but it was still a bargain at that price. It's much bigger than I thought it would be.

And I've waited 15 years for an Amazing Spider-Man #1 in a vg condition or higher. The closes I've ever been was when someone was willing to sell me one for $800 but I just couldn't raise the money fast enough.

The guy at my LCS offered me a nice #1 for $2000. I passed it up because my wife was in the store with me at the time. :!: Also, I alreay have a Good+ copy.

I knew I should've found the cash somehow, because it was a very nice issue. He ended up sending it to CGC, getting a 7.0 and selling it for 7,000 on e-bay. D'oh!!!

I guess sometimes you should just trust your instincts, mortgage the house if needed, and buy what you know to be a hell of a deal!!!

I feel your pain. Back in 1999 I could have bought a CGC 9.0 Amazing Spider-man #1 I saw at a local comic show. The guy wanted $9000 which I thought was pretty good deal for such a high grade comic. I asked the guy if he had a store because I wanted to pay via a credit card. He said he could only take cash because he had just sold his store was now just a weekend comic show dealer. I was crushed because I most definitely didn't have the cash. I believe a couple months ago a 9.0 sold for $26,000

I am sorry sir but you are mistaken. according to this site :

"CGC: The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly" by Terence J. Brandy

"When CGC offered limited charter membership in July '99, it took only a few weeks for retailers and dealers to fill the one hundred slots available. Some of the most well-known names in fandom are on-board: Sotheby's, Diamond, Wizard World, PCE, Motor City, Harley Yee, Four Color Comics, Metropolis, Motor City, Harley Yee, World's Finest, and Gary Dolgoff. "

One of the dealers from this test group was at a December show with the ASM #1 unrestored CGC 9.0 in Winston Salem NC.

The memory is bonded to my psyche. No way I was dreaming.

Ahhh, I did not know that.

Ordered Shadowman Vol 3 #2 from a site and got a nice Vf+/nm- "the good, the bad, and the very ugly" variant instead for $3.50. I decided to keep the comic and not return it  . Know how outlandish my claim is.........but it is true

For the record.........it was not Mile High comics. Mile High is good for Vf back issues. Not bashing Mile High, but Nm is typically vf to Vf+/nm- in my order experience. Haven't ordered from Mh for about 3 years, but if you need any comic commons cheap in at least Vf, figure that nm maybe vf

back in durham, nc. I found a Unity 2000 #2 (still in bag) in a bin of 5 for a dollar comics as well as a Unity #0. The store inside had a lot of VH2 stuff and some pre-unity stuff, mainly solar but none of it seemed very priced to sell. Maybe the owner comes on here?

I also got to flip through that dark horse magnus robot fighter hardcover...boy is that sweet.

Ok...I don't usually post here, for numerous reasons, but I thought I'd share. This blows me away. I've got a couple more coming along, when they get here. ;)

Here's the backstory: The Tick, published by New England Comics, published #2 in about June of 1988. All copies came with a nifty 'diecut cover', shown here:

Image

Now...a couple years ago (when the show was on), it was rumored some of the #2's were NOT diecut, but left as printed...thus creating a very rare, and (near) impossible to fake, variant. SOME say they were handed out to NEC employees, and that certainly less than 200 copies exist.

So....the rumor died, nothing became of it...but I've been looking for years. So an auction comes along, and says '#1 1st, #2 later printing (does not have diecut, or printing info, later printing.)'

BUT....

I remembered the rumors....so I bid.

And won this:

Image

The things to check for:

1. The price is $1.75. Later printings are $1.95 or more.

2. No 'second (or later) printing' info in the indicia. All later printings are identified as such.

3. Same COLORS as the 'diecut version'. Later printings have all changed the cover colors.

4. The letters col on the inside is printed with a space in the middle for the diecut. Later printings don't have this.

So...

After years of searching, I have found one of the crown jewels of 1980's rarities, one I'VE been looking for for YEARS.

As an added bonus...Greg suggested I have it graded/authenticated when I have my next batch done at WWLB in March, and I hadn't even considered it. I can't WAIT!

Cool, huh?

Damn ZWH, I have to give you all the credit in the world, you certainly know your stuff when it comes to oddball variants like this. Very nice find and definitely a book worthy of getting authenticated by CGC. Congratulations!

One other thing....NEC advertised the uncut version back in their ads of 1992...Chroma Tick Spec Ed #1 and #2 have ads for it at $90.

Greg...would that ad by sufficient proof of existence? I e-mailed NEC, so I'll see what I can get.

Ok, two more things...I'm wondering how CGC is grading the die cuts. This one was especially sketchy, so I wonder how they're taking the cuts into account. Obviously it wasn't machined very well (not like, say, FF #387)

So...we'll see.

Oh, and a 9.8 Batman #428...one of only TWO...is currently up for auction. High bid was $85.69 when I pushed it up. I'm definitely pushing it up more. That ::EDIT:: (the board bleeps *SQUEE*? Huh. Alright.) bastich wants it, he's gonna have to PAY for it.

Sorry for the non-sequitor, there's an honest to god path in my head connecting the two, I just didn't want to type it out. ;)

Nice score, Zeph!:)

I told your story to my talking Tick fgure, & it said "Spoon!":)

Several years ago, NEC included a BUYING list along with their sales catalog. They were actually buying rare stuff back! I've got several of their catalogs. They were all pretty cool, & came in funny Tick envelopes!---Steve

You know, I remember WIZARD #50 mentioning that uncut issue of The Tick. I'll have to dig it up and see what they said.
