VH 2 Starting Over

Post by ManofTheAtom »

Elveen's question about the existence of the bound-in Acclaim preview makes me realize that a lot of you VH 2 fans probably aren't aware of the existence of this serial that ran in the pages of Diamond's Previews catalogue.

That must make his story the rarest of VH 2 tales.

Basically, Starting Over features Magnus on a tour of the VH 2 universe and constitudes as the first appearance of all the VH 2 character as each chapter of SO appeared two months before the release of the comics.

The SO chapter of Q&W, for example, features the first (and I believe only) appearance of Eric and Woody's fathers.

Starting Over was not the only VALIANT story that appeared in Previews.

There was also a PunX two page story and a Q&W one page story that appeared before the release of Q&W #32

It's interesting to note how the character designs changed from SO to the ongoing series.

That Katherine "Russ" is having dinner with is supposed to be Jane's mother from Troublemakers, but she does not look like that in the comic.

The X-O and 1st Turok videogames had preview comics included with them. The Turok one has the 1st appearance of a VH-1 character in a VH-2 "comic" (the Campaigner).

The Bloodshot Starting Over pages are online at:

They're legible, but you might have to squint a bit.

Who owns the copyrights for the materials published in Previews and Advance Comics? Including character profiles, serialized stories, and promo art, there is enough material to put together a 64 page special issue. As I recall, there was a ton of cool stuff every month.

Fabian at one time was going to have these and the Turok N64 story and other little thing put together in a TPB...

Like many other things it never happened.

I remember getting in line at SDCC with my Solar Valiant Voyeur for George Perez to sign and he said that Acclaim never return that either.

He loved seeing it again BTW...

This was a common thing I'm afraid.

I have the Sega booklet, which has the comic. The GameBoy booklet does not.

And I have 4 copies of the T: DH for N64. That's all I can speak to. Check eBay--you can get 'em good & cheap.
