My Intro To Valiant
Hello Everyone,
Here's a short blurb about me and Valiant. It may be long.
Back in 1992 a couple of friends of mine were interested in opening a business and Comics was the focus. We investigated into the business and found out what we needed to do to open up.
- We pooled our funds together
- Opened a bank acct
- S Incorporated
- Opened a Vendor Acct with Diamond Comics
- Rented a Store
- Renovated and furnished the store
- Went to Baltimore to a comic convention to purchase some additional stock prior to our first order arriving.
- Named our place 'The Danger Room'
I was always a casual comic reader in the past with my X-Men, Superman, Green Lantern, Nova and various other titles but after opening up the store I got into reading Valiant Comics after a conversation with my partners about how the art and especially the stories were exceptionally interesting.
I then started my own acct at our store and kept abreast of the Valiant story lines as each order arrived.
This was prior to the Death of Superman hitting the streets. Of course this media hype cause crazy people not interested in comics to open a store being that there was money to be made. Unfortunately this also cause us to eventually go under due to the saturation of stores in our area. We even almost made it in the Black by the end of our first year which was not the norm and decided that it was best to not wait it out and close shop before we lose any more money. It was a good decision...
I still have a large stock of old comics from this period which I will continue to liquidate mostly of the major brand but some of Valiant titles.
I'm also an eBayer so if you look up 0sonny you will find my rating there.
IIRC it's should be around 80+ @100% still.
I'm busy so it will take me a long time to sift through all my comic stock before I can post them up for sale but if anyone has a special interest tell me.
I'd also prefer PayPal for payment if possible (Non-Credit Card) and local pickup is good to. But shipping will be at cost and I suggest insurance or else damage is your problem... Most of my stuff is bagged and back boarded already though some may not be.
That should be enough info...
God bless.
PS: for those who have read all of it and are down here.
I have a special story to tell. Some of you might find this interesting.
After we opened shop we started to look around for places to get certain hard to acquire Valiant titles. There happened to be a place in Elmhurst, NY that had them... even #1 Magnus and #1 Harbinger plus the #0 issues... Now we visited the store and I looked up seeing at least 10 of each of those titles I mentioned and I heard he had more. But from what I heard later this guy (Irish) had a connection with Valiant and that's why he got them so easily... a few months later I heard the law enforcement close his shop down and that he was connected to the IRA or something in that vein... either case I think all his stock got confiscated
but am I glad we didn't get caught in any of that shanaigans... How true is this? well truthful from my end that this happened... we closed shop 'The Danger Room' in 1993 IIRC - I'm a Valiant Fan since then....
