Taking requests for potential 9.8s...
...I'm getting ready to send in a pre-screened order, and wanted to offer to take a few requests for books that you would normally not see in a slab to be slabbed. Maybe your favorite cover is X-O 10 or Solar 14, and you want a 9.8+ showpiece. I'll supply the book, and don't ask for stuff like Turok 47 or pre-unity - I'm talking commons here.
If I get a 9.8+ back, you will buy it for $24, postage paid, to anywhere in the US. If I don't, oh well...
No money changes hands until I get the book back from CGC.
And a pre-emptive strike - please don't give me a hard time. If this is uninteresting to you, just pass it by. This is something that may be stupid to some but appeal to others.

I'd look at any EW through about number 7 (already have #8 slabbed)ckb wrote:...I'm getting ready to send in a pre-screened order, and wanted to offer to take a few requests for books that you would normally not see in a slab to be slabbed. Would Rai 0 count as pre-unity or post-unity? I never did figure that one out.

I've got a bunch of A&A 0s and Rai 0s that I'm going to screen at 9.8, so those are definitely in. You don't have to commit on those.
I do have nice enough copies in quantity on EW 1-8 and A&A 1-8 to attempt it for any of them. Solar 22 as well. Solar 46 - I have to check my copies.
Use the cover database here to look for ideas. Try to pick one or two issues each, and I will concentrate on those.

Ok, I'll break out some more Rai 0's and include those. I would have never imagined. I wonder if I can convince them that some are the "glossy" variant. Hmmm.
I was going to ship this weekend but will wait until next week so I can screen these commons and fill out another invoice of 30 books. Maybe even two invoices, 60 books. I've gotten a good response.
Just some ideas:
x-o 9-13
Solar 14-18
Rai 8
Bloodshot 1,5,6
Harbinger 13,18,23,24
Hard corps 1,2
ooh forgot shadowman. I always liked these:
6,8,13,14,15,19,20,21

CKB,
I think it's very cool of you to bring this offer to the boards before sending the books in to CGC.
It's really a no-lose situation for everyone, provided the $24 price tag is agreeable.
If I didn't have a few raws already that were 9.6-9.8, I'd ask for a Ninjak 1, I think that chromium cover would look very cool in the CGC holder.
Good luck on the pre-screens. Give the books a little more than a passing glance to save on those rejects!

Truer words have never been spoken!mrwoogieman wrote:Give the books a little more than a passing glance to save on those rejects!

Directed attempts at 9.8 can actually simplify things, since very little is allowable. Because I have a quantity of these commons to choose from, I should be able to weed it down.
Still, I would find a 50% hit rate on a 9.8 pre-screen acceptable, with an expected rate more like 25%. With this in mind, the $24 price is basically a wash or a loss unless my hit rate is higher. But, I may get a 9.8 or two for my own set out of it, and find the extra's a home.
Thanks for the kind words.

For $24 post-paid, here are some post-Unity (common) books
that I wouldn't mind getting 9.8s of:
Archer & Armstrong 0 (technically it's pre-Unity, but you listed it earlier in this topic)
Eternal Warrior 4
Eternal Warrior 5
Harbinger 10
Rai 8
Shadowman 8
Solar 14
...and I'd even pick up a Rai 0, if there's extra!
Hmmm... those are almost all post-Unity, and they're all from 1992. Weird.
Ummm... and Eternal Warrior 8... yeah, that breaks the 1992 pattern.

Hmm I understand most of these issues... could someone explain to me how Rai 8 fits in this list? I am so tempted right now to just follow in greg's lead

For me, Rai #1 - #8 are the "early set".Looking Again wrote:Hmm I understand most of these issues... could someone explain to me how Rai 8 fits in this list?
Rai #0 came along later, and really stands on its own...
Rai #9 is like a different animal altogether, with its "Future Force".
So if you're looking for post-Unity books that "feel" like pre-Unity...
Rai #8 is about as close as it gets.

I don't know if CGC would specify any peculiarities for Rai #0,Vault-Keeper wrote:I wonder if CGC knows about the Glossy version of Rai #0?
Don't forget to check for bleed over on the Japanese logo!:)---Steve
but it's documented (as much as we know) here:
