are you accusing jedi of being a... master baiter?
ME??

NEVER!
I'd encourage jedi to send his sweet lookin' Ivory Variant in to be CGC'ed. I plan on sending in my Turok from the other thread. Although I will insist that CGC labels it the "Oh s**t, we ran out of red foil" Variant. :thumb:
I'll pay $10,000 for this book, but only if it's the Merchant/Ivory variant....I hear they make some pretty crappy films....

No cover price... tells us that it wasn't meant to be sold.

What it was meant for... we don't know.

But anything WITH a cover price isn't nearly as exciting.

:P
That Bloodshot "pink" has a cover price. :?

I've sent an email to CGC letting them know that they screwed up. :thumb:

While this is a "variation" in color when compared to "pure white",
this book has absolutely nothing to do with the Gold Editions.

Valiant printed 800,000 copies of the regular edition, so it's likely
that if you compare two of them, you might see some differences.
That's not really surprising, I doubt if all 800,000 came off the same
printer with the same combination of inks.

However, if CGC considers this book a "Gold Printing Error", they're wrong.

...and I don't mind pointing it out.

If they hadn't mentioned "Gold Edition", it might have been ok...
after all, the book is clearly a "different color" than a pure white regular,
but it's still just a regular edition that has a different color.
To associate it with the Gold Editions is wrong.
Gold Editions do not have a cover price.
Gold Editions have a dark gold price box.
Gold Editions have the X-O Manowar title in gold.

This book might be a "variant", but it is a variant of the REGULAR edition,
print run, 800,000 copies. Not a "special one-of-a-kind" anything.
I'm sure there are hundreds of copies that don't "look alike"...
even 8,000 copies that are different would only be 1% of the print run.

This hobby is already crazy enough that we don't need to just make new stuff up.

:P

Can anyone think of (or see) why they would be so confused to think this was a misprint of a Gold edition???

CGC knows a bit about Variants. They've seen a few and know a bit about the printing process, and didn't assign their remarks without careful thought and discussion. I doubt anyone on this board knows more about comic book printing and variants than CGC.

Sorry, they screwed up the minute they said "Gold".

I've advised them in the past, and I'll advise them in the future.

It's sorta my hobby. :thumb:

Image

White (or off-white) price box? Regular
$3.50 cover price? Regular
Silver X-O Manowar title? Regular

Look at the center of the Valiant compass...
On the regular edition it is the same color as the price box.
On the Gold edition, it is white, even though the price box is gold.
Look at the blast from X-O's wrist cannon... white on both versions.

The only thing that is "different" about the ivory edition is that everywhere
it should be white, it is ivory instead. That's a problem with the white ink,
and has nothing to do with the edition of the book.

What's this "Ivory" book a variation of? REGULAR ...or maybe I'm wrong.

Sorry to be a 'harbinger' of bad news. (party-pooper, killjoy, spoilsport, etc.) :|

CGC? They're grading guys. They're comic book guys just like many of us here. The difference? They get paid to do what they do.

There are a few people on this board who have quite a bit more experience in their various (comic book) fields than CGC.

(oh, and for those dancing around the issue like large African elephants, the PINK is NEITHER a "gold misprint" NOR a "regular misprint" [using the nomenclature, not saying it's not a misprint absolutely]....it's something different from everything else. Is it a "mistake"? NO ONE YET KNOWS....HOWEVER...it is my opinion, for whatever that's worth, that the book was made on purpose, for whatever reason, because there are too many things "different" about the book to make it "accidental."

Occum's razor...there are just too many things "wrong" with this book for it to have been an error....there had to have been a conscious mind behind it at some point...BUT I COULD BE WRONG, and this could be a genuine "oops" error.

The point.....? None of us (yet) knows.)

Calling that an "ivory variant" or a "gold printing error" is ridiculous.

I hope nobody gets swindled into paying any sort of premium for what is essentially a sub-par book.

In my mind, this is similar to a badly centered Rai #3, which is worth less to most people than a well-centered Rai #3. The printing got screwed up and made a book incorrectly. The version that comes out incorrectly from the printer is worth less than a version that comes out correctly.

Since X-O Manowar #0 is essentially worthless, this is then less than worthless.

I aggre with ZephyrWasFAT!!. I noticed this thing a couple years ago and never thought twice about it being a variant. There is no way that there are a limited amount of these. For God Sakes, of the 6 X-O Zeros I own (without prior knowledge of them being Ivory), two are Ivory. This cannot be rare and if the guys at CGC never noticed it before, its because they probably never gave it much thought until someone was hounding them about a variant.
