Where do you think that untapped reserve of 25 cent bins full of pre-unity titles is sitting gathering dust? I'm going back to NC in two weeks and want to see what I can find...

where in NC?
I live in downtown Charlotte...

Heroes is sparse... I found a Solar #1 there last week for a few dollars, but no Harbinger or Magnus stuff at all...

a little store just opened in Cornelius too, but they also have nothing

I was able to find these 25 cent bins in abundance the Summer before last. I don't think your gonna have too much luck now since Wizard has jumped back on the Valiant bandwagon.

There's probably some undiscovered country up here in
Northern New England if you had time to cruise some of the smaller college towns and check out their back issues. I've hit most of the shops within an hour of my location which would cover a large part of New Hampshire and into Northern Massachussetts. VALIANTS in general are scarce, most shops when you ask tell you they got rid of them a long time ago, meaning trashed or shredded, occasionally you might find a gem, but that is becoming rare.

There are a couple of places in Madison Wisconsin that have some in their 3/$1.00 boxes...although they are not bagged or boarded so the condition isn't very great....however it's not bad if you're just trying to complete a collection.

We had some NICE resources here on Cleveland's West Side, but I and another Valiant fanatic that I've never met (he's been described to me by the store owners) have essentially cleaned them out. I'm still *SQUEE* that he grabbed that stack of 20 Magnus #57 Errors while I went home and debated about it :x

Of course we're probably all a bit biased towards our own region so I'll chime in that there's Valiants in them thar Seattle hills!

From the modicum of effort I've actually put into tracking down Valiant books locally I've been amazed each and every time I hunt.

I know of 2 potential Goldmines I can't mention quite yet. I also know of some nice Valiant collections in Olympia but the owners are college students and don't have the time to dig through all of the boxes. I got the impression they'd be doing some research on Valiant prices after talking to me.

I try not to get excited when I talk about them but I think it's the simple fact that a seven foot black man (not the typical funny book collector) is asking gets their attention. I can almost hear their mental cash registers chime in ... Hmm, these must be worth money....*cha Ching!!

Anyway Seattle's been good to me so far lets hope 2005 uncovers some more local treasures.

That's amazing. I moved to Charlotte recently, and while I really like Heroes Aren't Hard to Find, their selection of Valiants is a little lacking. The owner said he remembered the craze, and has a tough time believing there is still a market for the stuff. In fact, he had sold like 20 boxes of "junk" to mile high comics that included some Valiants.

I have been pretty familiar with the NC market (collecting them and living in NC for 15 years), and it's just not that super for Valiants. I have checked in Winston Salem, Chapel Hill and New Bern (and Charlotte). And actually, just by luck, New Bern was where I got the luckiest. Their dime bin had unity reds, golds, and platinums! Other than that, zippo.

Dude, that's not the typical anything (except, of course, NBA center).

Tell 'em you're on the PGA Tour!

But I'm with you, there are a lot of shops out there that have not been cherrypicked.

Well fourth world comics of Smithtown, NY here on Long Island has 10 cent and 25 cent bins that were absolutely instrumental in completeing many of my Valiant runs. Infact I found issue 1-26 of Eternal Warrior and a complete run of Hard Corps in the 10 cent bin. If I remember correctly the last time I scoured the 10 cent bins I was told that was the last of the 10 cent Valiant books. There were ample supplies of RAi and the Future Force, Shadowman, Hard Corps, Eternal Warrior and some other scattered titles in the 10 cent bin. Though the are always filling in the quarter box with books. Also Collector`s Kingdom of Huntington has 50 cent boxes that I rumage through every now and then. Last week I spotted some unity and pre unity issues of Rai as well as Magnus that may possibly still be there. Those 50 cent comics usually just sit there as they are rather inconveinent to get to as they are stacked up on top of one another, so if you want to look through them it takes a little effort on your part to move boxes around. I`m a quarter bin comic hound so I don`t mind.
i maintain that chaos is the future and beyond is freedom...confusion is next

I hit the flea markets as well, they tend to be pretty good!

In all my searches for Valiants, I don't think I can really say I've ever found a comic shop locally that had any pre-Unity books in bargain boxes. I've found pre-Unity books in bargain boxes at comic shows, but not the shops. My regular comic shop had some decent Valiants in their .25 boxes, but they were late, lower print run Valiants. I have gotten pre-Unity books and gold books from a local store, but they always charge at least cover price and usually pull out the Overstreet, so I've gotten great deals, but not jaw dropping deals like getting a Unity Red for 50 cents.

Welcome to the board, 1A. Good to see another Cheesehead here. I was in Madison a couple months back for a comic show and while there I checked some of the local shops and didn't find much of anything Valiant related. I wasn't able to check out one of the bigger shops in Madison (Capital Comics) because they were closed on Sundays. Knowing my luck, that was probably the one store that had Valiants! :!:

I've been reading so much about these hidden treasures I've decide to go hunting tommorrow at some of the local shops. I haven't read anything about anyone searching here in my neck of the woods, maybe I'll get lucky! I'll let you know!
When I was five, I dragged my dad into "Mike's Comic Hut"... If only I'd known..
