Well, where to start. My first VALIANT comic was Solar 1 which I picked up at the LCS when it first came out. I had been reading about VALIANT
in Comic Shop News and a lot of the kids were already reading Magnus which at the time just didn't appeal to me because I was busy becoming reaquainted with the Marvel characters after not really reading comics from 1976-1988. It was also a time of groundbreaking new styles of artwork from Macfarlane and Jim Lee and others. I loved Solar 1, and even then being the speculator that I am, I went back the next day and bought the 5 remaining copies (one I sent to architect for the vcvss). The writing of Solar really knocked my socks off, and the BWS insert made it even better. I saw the ads for Harbinger and the 0 promotion and felt this was going to fly under the radar initially, but if the company took off, the Pink 0 would be a huge collectable. Well Harbinger 1 sold ok, I picked up 5 copies initially but never went back for more. The book was great and I started buying more. For some reason I never bought more than 2 copies of #'s 4+5 (maybe Silver Surfer 50, or the Ghost Rider GITD cover came out those weeks and I stupidly bought 15 copies, I don't know) and couldn't find any so I initially sent in for only 2 Harby 0's, but I think I was the only one in my immediate area who had any, including the LCS guys.
I continued to read Harby through issue 28 or 29 or so and then pretty much gave up but still bought most of the issues, same with all the other VALIANT titles. I followed EW longer because the stories seemed to be a little better and XO for quite a while.
When UNITY came out things just went crazy. I sold many of my extra copies on consignment at the LCS during the heyday. $150 for a Harby 1, $55 for an XO 1, $125 for a Harby 2, are the ones I remember right off.
