THE RISE AND FALL OF MY VALIANT COLLECTION
I started collecting x-men comics when i was 5 years old (1980). As i grew I collected a few more titles including Amazing Spider-man.
I was lucky enough when I started to drive that there was a LCS that promoted the Previews catalog (back when it was 50 cents. By this time I was collecting 20 titles a month including Superman and Bat-man.
Then I saw it!!! BWS and Jim Shooter and Bob Layton starting a company. I was hooked. I sold all my comics except my X-men and bought 4 copies of every valiant book (2 to get the coupons out of, 1 for me, and one for my first born son). Its was great. I collected up to Chaos Effect. I was able to sell my extra books with no coupons for a mint and buy gold books.
I sat on my valiants till i got married. I loved reading the TPBs and remincsing about the pre-unity days. Then in july 00 tradegy struck my wife and I. We lost our first child in utero and the medical bills were HUGE. I sold all of my comics to pay for the bills.
My daughter was born on 8/01 and I had furthur bills, once they were paid off, She had to go into the hospital for a severe infection and had to have here tonsils removed several months later at 2 years old. I Sold my Heroclix for that (I had every single one including LEs up to and including Xplosion).
Recently I got a much better job and I started collecting again around Civil War. I was also collecting DC until the "we well finish the story in an annual later on". At that point I dropped DC and Doubled my Marvel Effort.
Then I saw it Harbinger HC in Previews. The Kid in me exploded. I decided that I would drop all my Marvel Titles except X-men and concentrate on getting all my valiants back again.
So my collection begins again. by now I have a 1 year old son (not quite old enough to appreciate these yet. LOL. And only short of my family getting sick again will I sell it.
Would I do it all again. HELL YES!!! My kids and wife come first, then the comics.
See you all on the boards. Try not to give this nnob too much crap.
