Do the Valiant fans really matter?

Something to ponder...

ValiantFans.com is a messageboard devoted solely to Valiant comics.
It has 1,348 members as of this post.

Newsarama.com is a messageboard devoted to the entire comic book industry.
It has 36,840 members as of this post.

Let's compare 1,348 to 36,840.
ValiantFans.com is 3.66% of the current
Newsarama.com membership counts.

What does 3.66% in the comic industry mean? Is it important at all?

As of July 2007, a 3.66% unit share for publishers would be 4th behind Marvel, DC, and Dark Horse.
A 3.66% dollar share for publishers would be 5th behind Marvel, DC, Dark Horse, and Image.

hell ya
and i doubt that that 3% is super accurate
how many valiant fans know of newsarama ?
how many know of VALIANTFANS.com here ? :thumb:

news a rama has a huge following by the industry as well as advertising up the wazooo
this site cant afford to spend thousands on advertising if you did you would get more members like newsarama around 10% or more
as valiant had in its hayday

Yeah thats a good point. NO advertising whatsoever. If Greg started advertising on newsarama, with all the hype surrounding the VALIANT re-launch right now...the number of new members would increase significantly :hm:

Well, I think market share or no Valiant fans matter. If I'm reading what you're saying right, it's like Valiant already has a rabid fan base of almost 4 percent (beating out Image?) and they aren't even out yet (again). Just think of how the numbers jumped when the relaunch was announced and think again how much more numbers will jump when there is an actual FULL relaunch. I think Valiant as a company has a shot at being a real contender in the market, and this site will have years of followers to push it to the front of the "fan site" line.

I just wanted to add that I have been a valiant fan since the beginning and only recently came across this site to my great surprise  . I'm pretty sure that there are a lot more valiant fans out there that have no idea valiantfans.com even exists. The 3.66% is an extremely conservative number and comparing it to newsarama isnt very fair. You have to remember that newsarama covers the entire industry not just one specific title. :atomic:

wouldn't it be more acurate to compare us to say imagecomics.com's members? or marvel.com or dc.com or something like that? but those statistics do give us a rough indication on where Valiant fans are in the percentage of all comic lovers. But I do think there's a lot more of us out there, considering how many folks came here by accident.

I'm thinking we count.

You're right that 3% isn't much. However, lets think about Demographics.

I remember a thread not too long ago polling tha age of VF.com members; as I recall I was one of the young-pups at 27. I don't have any data to support it, but I'm willing to bet (by just looking at the quality/maturity of the posts I've read at newsarama) that their membership is primarily composed of people that aren't even old enough to drink yet, let alone remember the REAL Valiant years. That doesn't, of course, apply to all of their members, but I'm thinking somewhere in the 60% range is probably accurate.

Also, for the VF.com size, I bet we spend one helluva large chunk of American Pesos on funny books every month. Either current titles or backissues. Most of us have jobs with families and such while I'm betting that the vast majority of newsarama.com hasn't even seen a live girl naked before.

Are we as large as the newsarama crowd? - No
Are we still a voice to be heard? - Absolutely.

I don't have an answer to this, but do you think that Valiant would be returning if this fan-base of customers didn't exist?

I think of newsarama.com as quantity; while we here at VF.com are quality - plain and simple.
