VRD does not work for Canada, what a disapointment.
Valiant Retailer Direct does not work for Canada. I went to two local comic shops in my area. One comic store said he can't bother with this. I told him of the situation, and what happened with the news regarding the Harbinger: Beginning hardcover, and that Diamond has cancelled all orders for this book, and that Valiant Entertainment has now offered to sell the book by themselves, but with only retailers having to place the orders for their customers. He was worried about the shipping costs and customs charges that would incur for one customer, one book. Without Diamond Dist. it worried him. Naturally I was the only one that was asking for this book now. But at the time for the Diamond Previews order, I with one other customer had placed orders on this. After this I understood the retailer's plight.
I went to another comic store, he looked into the the website link after I told him that Valiant was using paypal for payment methods (I looked into the webpage myself), he even liked the retailer discount cost, which got him really interested and the shipping would be covered in the total costs of his order. He told us he remembered ordering the book at the time. After checking it out, he put his order for 5 copies and his info bits in the site and it rejected him as being a non US resident. So theres nothing else he can do. He found this arrogant on Valiant's part to only be for US stores. After this I asked if he ordered alot of copies in the first place and he said honestly, no. Even more burning is that he had a copy of the old Harbinger TPB on a half price rack, which makes me feel stupid about getting the new HC. But I already own the TPB.
So really I can't get the book at all. I'm really upset about Valiant's methods to get this book out there and to support your LCS and yet we can't! Valiant's not making new readers if they can't get this product to be available. Ever more so am I *SQUEE* about the sudden cancellation from Diamond. Now some of us readers in Canada know why this book ain't available on Amazon.ca or Chapters/Indigo.ca sites. We can't get it. Perhaps the "legal crap" on the patents, copyrights, trademarks prevents VEI from making the the book available beyond the US?
This new Valiant just got a rocky start from the fiasco and I really ain't happy about this. This doesn't bode well for their future until this "legal crap" ends. For now I don't see them putting out any new books until this is over with. Maybe the Harbinger HC will be offered through Diamond again when that happens. My only other resort is with Amazon.com which I'm thinking about, since it seems fair. I've tried some other mail order sites, back when Previews listed it, and the shipping/handling charges to Canada made it not worth it at all. I"m 50/50 if I'll be bothering with this at all.

The book was selling really well, amazon's program probably thought it had offered it too low.Daniel Jackson wrote:Hmm... I wonder why they did away with the discount?DK2 wrote:Ugh, all of a sudden Amazon.com isn't offering any sort of discount now. Swear it was on discount yesterday. Now its not worth it at all. I suppose, but all that's going to do is slow down the sales now.muzzsucker wrote:The book was selling really well, amazon's program probably thought it had offered it too low.Daniel Jackson wrote:Hmm... I asked... the answer was that their system did not anticipate the increase in orders,Daniel Jackson wrote:Hmm... and is "covering itself" until Amazon can verify their ability to fill orders at the lower price.
It's the same reason it says "usually ships in 4 to 6 weeks"...
their computers have "stops" in place for high orders they
haven't confirmed as being available yet.
The system got 'caught offguard' and is running standard procedures for that.
They'll probably fix it soon, once they verify availability and pricing with VEI.

I am in Canada and ordered my 2 copies from Amazon.com Tuesday. It was actually delivered yesterday but I wasn't frigging home to sign for it (and pay the $2.08 I apparently owe for customs)
I did premium shipping so the overall order wasn't cheap but I wanted to make sure I got my 2 copies. I just hope they can deliver after 3:30 today so I can pick it up or I gotta wait until frigging next wednesday anyways.

Ah, I see. In that case it's cool. Glad to see the book overloaded the system. Yeah, evidently it was no problem taking orders for a while,Daniel Jackson wrote:Ah, I see. In that case it's cool. Glad to see the book overloaded the system. Frakking Canadians get all the perks from NAFTA

For something like that I'd have to pay like 20 USD.

On paper maybe... As a consumer I've yet to experience any perks associated with it.SnotDrip wrote:ManofTheAtom wrote:2.08?!?!?!?!!!??MProyas wrote:I am in Canada and ordered my 2 copies from Amazon.com Tuesday. If the way things are now is the way they are WITH NAFTA, I dread at the thought of how they'd be WITHOUT it.

Even 3 years ago, duty and exchange would have made it not even near worth ordering from Amazon.com. The Canadian dollar has gotten damn near even to the American (I am not sure if our economy is doing that much better or if the American is just sucking that bad) but I'll actually wait to see what the duty is when it comes today.ManofTheAtom wrote:On paper maybe... Actually that treaty was a George Sr. decision.ckb wrote:Fixed that for ya....MProyas wrote:well not if GWB has his way, but I hear ya and I feel for ya. My first sentence and the second sentence weren't implying George Jr. had anything to do with NAFTA, but that he works alot harder to increase the relationship with the US and Mexico than he does the US and Canada. The agreement was initially pursued by conservative governments in the United States and Canada supportive of free trade, led by Canadian Prime Minister Brian Mulroney, U.S. President George H. W. Bush, and the Mexican President Carlos Salinas de Gortari.

Yes, Bush 41 signed it after Clinton was elected (Dec 1992) and Clinton worked his butt off to get it through the congress in 1993. It was unpopular, but he somehow pulled it off.MProyas wrote:Actually that treaty was a George Sr. decision.ckb wrote:Fixed that for ya....MProyas wrote:well not if GWB has his way, but I hear ya and I feel for ya. No arguments on the second paragraph, and I don't like it either.

President Bush (the current one) certainly does not ignore Canada. His meetings with Vicente Fox and Felipe Calderon have certainly been higher profile than Steven Harper and his predecessor, whose name currently escapes me (Chritien?). Recently, there was a summit between the three.
Certainly, the relationship between the US and Mexico is more of a hot-button issue right now than the relationship between the US and Canada, particularly in the arena of immigration. President Bush dealt with the Mexican government more than he did the Canadian government in his last job, Governor of the greatest state of them all, Texas. I am not aware of any members of his immediate family that are Canadian or of Canadian descent, but his sister-in-law (wife of Florida Governor Jeb Bush) is Columbian and his nephew Neil P. Bush is quite obviously of hispanic descent.
So, no, I am not surprised we hear more about the President's meetings with representatives of the Mexican government than we do his meetings with representatives of the Canadian government.
