The appeal of some gold books over others . . . confusing

Ok . . . I've skimmed the gold books on Ebay for some time now. From what I understand all gold books have about the same print run.

However, I noticed that books like Psi-Lords Gold are quite common on Ebay and don't go for much, while others are not so common and go for quite a bit more.

I'm probably just missing something. Is this just a matter of some books are more appealing . . . or do some actually have a larger print run than originally believed?

A large part of it is Supply/demand. PSI-Lords is one that is seeing a lot of exchange and thus is easier to come by. Other ones, like Magnus #21 Gold for instance, aren't being exchanged as much, and thus are harder to come by. Best bet is there are some collectors sitting on some large stockpiles of these somewhere.

I'm sure someone else here can give a more informed decision though.

Imagine two books being sold...

One is:
"The rarest edition of X-O Manowar ever made"

The other is:
"The rarest edition of Psi-Lords ever made"

Does the number of copies really matter? :D

Does it matter that there's a seller sitting on 400 copies in their original shipping cases, and selling them in 10-paks for $15???? Nah, can't be a factor...the print run is the same no matter who has them.

There's the print run, which is an undisputable factor; and there is "in circulation". If the print run of a book is 10000, but only 5% of that are circulating the market -due to whatever- then the demand is going to be higher, especially if it's something 'variant' oriented which collectors gaggle over. Albeit the inflated price is a "false pretense" one, but it's still an increase.

I'm not even saying this is the reason for the $ difference between gold books, but it certainly is a potential reason.

:thumb: Indeed just look at EW 1 Embossed Gold or the recent Dr Mirage Gold that went for over $200.
