i wonder how i'd feel if i paid a designer for a logo and got pretty much the original back in a different perspective...

I'd be ok with it if I had asked him for a new take on the old (and possibly contested) logo.

Good thing you didn't buy VALIANT then.

I like the logo. True to the original, but looks much different at the same time.

I like reading that they hired that dude to design it. That tells me that they are investing heavily and are serious about this thing.

I dig it. You know it's Valiant but you also know that it's new.

It's a nice logo... it didn't take me long to get used to it...
(I can already imagine flipping through back issue boxes in 2027 looking for it...)

Here's more info on the design company:

Looks good to me!!

Im wondering how much they paid for that chosen design. When people create a logo they usually create 4 or 5 designs and run them by the purchasers.

Having this done isnt cheap, ESPECIALLY with who they had do it for them!

VEI is into this big time!

I really like the logo, I really do.

But c'mon. Turn the axis on its side a little bit and that was the best the guy could come up with? He went to Yale for chrissakes

Glad they got the new logo - glad it looks like the old one I'd hate to see something totally different, but wtf was that guy thinking? Lemme just rotate the axis and make the lettering bolder. Voila - that'll be a million bucks please

I'd say it easily beats Acclaim's less-expensive "Big V". :P

A lot more though goes into these things than you really understand.. there a whole psychology of art and presentation that these guys delve into. Its deeper than you think, everything from tilt and degree of rotation to colors and size.. its all in there..

I like the logo, but don't quite love it yet. It looks like someone modified the original logo without really knowing what the logo was about. The distinct "V" in the compass is gone for one thing. But it does say "We're the new Valiant, but we're a lot like the classic VALIANT." That's a good thing, so for that reason I like it.

It would have been cool if there had been an open contest among the fans for a new logo design. I wonder what some of us would have come up with and if it would have been any better.

BS

The first thing you do, or I do, when I d!ck around on photoshop or something is

1. Rotate the image
2. Bold the letters

Its so straightforward thats why those icons come preset...like on Mac preview or Microsoft word.

Don't buy into that rubbish about psychology blah blah bleh. Guys just trying to get paid more money

Well in order to rotate the image you first need to HAVE an image.. and if you look closely, that image is all new.. Compare the old to the new.. its a lot different but looks the same.. Hey I think those guys get paid WAY too much too, but if you want your company to stick out like some of the other logos this guys did then you go to the best.. Im glad VEI went to the best!

Thanks Dino for doing this the right way! Im even more confident in whats ahead!!

It's just a symbol folks...

Give me something good to associate with it, all those elements that made Valiant comics great in the first place; and I'll love it as much as the original, if not more so.

Eagerly waiting!!!

PS - I like the look!

I immediately like the logo at a tilt, as it may symbolise a lot, whilst also freshening up the original, which is cool.

The only thing I didn't like was that almost cursive lettering font. I would have preferred a more angular font and for VALIANT to be capitalised.
VEI - I look forward to you one day publishing MORE than 9-10 books per month
