How it all started...
Around 1992 me and the wife collected Baseball Cards. So in our quest looking for these cards we would search hi and low, here and there, basically everywhere.
We got to know a fellow at a local Comic, Card and game shop. At this time I had no interest in comics really. Never had any when I was a youngster so I hardly paid much attention to the racks of books in there. One Friday evening in 1993 I was just hanging out in there and overheard some people talking about a comic book coming out ( surely you know which book by now) with the death of superman in it. I asked the owner about it and he explained the whole story, including how the issues leading up to this event were going up in prices and everyone in town was out of them.
I saw a way to make money for MORE CARDS! So Saturday morning me and the wife set off I went to Hicksville Arkansas to every grocery store along the way. Back at that time they had racks of comics in the grocery store. Needless to say we brought back a LOAD of the issues he had told me about.
The "card" shop owner bought all of them for a nice sum I want to say at least 3x cover price. But, he convinced me to keep a set for myself and wednesday when Superman #75 came out he would GIVE me a copy of that issue.
So we went home with our profits contemplating what new baseball cards we would buy with them. I sat down and read the books!
BIG MISTAKE !!!
From this day on I have every Batman Family, and Superman Family book basically printed. Along the way the Owner of the comic shop Slipped a copy of Unity #0 into my books one day and like a crack addict I was hooked on the Story. Especially Shadowman, He was set in my home state what was not to like. Eventually I started buying all the Valiants that came out also but was never able to afford the pre-unity issues. the only complete run I had was Shadowman.
Then they were SOLD. The only books I continued reading were the Shadowman and the Eternal Warriors. once they went to VH2 Shadowman was all I bothered with.
Once they ceased publishing I just continued with my books as before, only with a sad hole where Valiant should have been.
I found this board around 2005 when I first started to try to complete the whole Valiant runs and the card sets. I did some trades with people on the boards and was close to finishing the whole set. Interest wained and I got sick for 6 months.
I'm all better (mostly) now and with news of the new Hardcover coming out (it's on pre-order
) I have decided to now try and finish my collection of VH1
Since I do not remember my old board name I made a new one.
Bring on the New Valiant....
