Mike Wieringo ('Ringo') has passed away at the age of 44 from a heart attack.

story

Sad. I liked his slightly cartoon-y style.

This is terrible news. I just checked his website late last week, to see his latest sketch and briefly read his comments on the upcoming TELLOS collection. Only last night I pulled the MODERN MASTERS volume devoted to him so as to get started reading it.

He was far too young, an amazing talent, and he'll be missed a great deal.

Onward and upward, friend.

i can't speak of mike weiringo without saying that the 2 times i met him he was completely rude to everyone and frankly turned me off of supporting his work.

perhaps i had the misfortune of catching him on a bad day both times...everyone speaks so highly of him it mystifies me as to how i managed to not meet that person on both occasions.

but, i'm not here to bash the guy and i hope it doesn't come off that way.

regardless of all that his artwork is amazing and it's a shame he left the world so young.

I cannot even say how devastated this makes me. Mike is my favorite comics artist and I've had the absolute pleasure of spending some time with him at four conventions, where he was always a totally nice guy.

Mike gave me my first convention sketch in '96, which was sadly stolen a few years ago). He was always a joy to talk with. I'll miss seeing his work and more than that, I'll miss our talks together at Heroescon.

I wasn't a fan until he drew one of my all time favorite FF stories. The FF went to Heaven and met God......who happened to look a lot like Jack Kirby. :cloud9:

Since then, I just had an affinity for his stuff.

He will be sorely missed.

I really liked his work on Robin.

He really was an asset to the industry.

Terribly sad. :(

I met him at Heroes Con '96 and he signed an awesome Robin Litho he drew with Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy for me.

I will miss his work.

I have the obit that the Durham Herald-Sun ran for him (he lived here in Durham) and promise to scan it and post it here soon.

RIP, 'Ringo.
