Just playing devils advocate here. VIP did apply for the trademarks on 3/31. The auction was in April. So in reality, they did apply for them shortly before the auction. Not that I want them to win. I do find it humorous the problem with the Valiant trademark is too similar to Prince Valiant. Isn't that owned by the same people who own the GK3?magnusr wrote:He also looks like he's trying a red herring when he states "These applications were filed after I had conducted some basic research of the public records". We all know that the auction was when VIP started being interested.
To say that "Valiant Intellectual Properties has been working on this for years" is a bit funny considering the quality of the "ash-can".
Doesn't Lovitz care at all about his reputation?
What is Comic Central?

VIP did apply for the trademarks on 3/31, though the auction was announced months in advance.
Why would VIP wait until the onset of the auction, when it is known that the USPTO takes several days to register the applications?
Why the secret, last second, covert actions?
"Good faith" and "bad faith" are ethical terms... and legal terms.

What was the deal with hime reporting what was posted on the fan boards. Could you imagine if other public figures told everything that was posted about them on the internet. I do consider him a public figure since he is not only legal representation of a media company, and thus far their only spokesperson. That was kind of sad, I mean did he honestly feel threatened by the posting. I would not fear suggestions of punches to the nuts, they are for comedic sake. Noone on hear ever threatened serious bodily harm, did they?

All that was missing was his crying for his mommy because the other kids are being mean to him.ThrillKillWill wrote:What was the deal with hime reporting what was posted on the fan boards. This post on the Newsarama board seems to sum it up:
"Ironically, this may be the first ashcan to come along in decades to actually exist for the original purpose - a quickly produced pamphlet intended not to be sold, but to secure copyright."
Just from reading the article, I seriously doubt that VIP has any intention of publishing comics. It appears to be a legal way for a lawyer to extort money from VEI and take a percentage of their future comics sales. Just my $0.02.

Like greg thankfully points out to us, VIP has nothing Valiant to offer the fans. Thanks to the comments from Lovitz and Walter, the incredible HC solicited by VEI, and the hastily assembled trash (the a$$can) that VIP is desperately trying to gain recognition for, it is painfully obvious that the only source for true Valiant books will be VEI.thePike wrote:The more I read the article, the more I think it's a money play from VIP.
A chance for VIP to get get $$$ from VEI. If VIP wins in court, then VEI either has to make changes to Valiant (and thus kill our much-wanted return) or dish out beacoup dollars to buy the TM's from VIP.
A special thanks goes to Mr Lovitz for confirming to the vast majority of the Valiant fan base that he, and the group he represents, truly are the villains in this little episode.thePike wrote:Apparently Lovitz takes things a little too seriously.

well, he does have the power to delete your posts at will, so I guess take it for what it's worth.ManofTheAtom wrote:Is that a... threat?Daniel Jackson wrote:MOTA, I would strongly advise giving that a rest.ManofTheAtom wrote:And the mighty overlord strikes againDaniel Jackson wrote:Not me.betterthanezra wrote:It seems someone bought 4 of these and they already have them on Ebay already look at the BIN and look at the shipping he's still getting that $40 price....

Mods who delete posts on a whim without justification are abusing their power.Brother J wrote:well, he does have the power to delete your posts at will, so I guess take it for what it's worth.ManofTheAtom wrote:Is that a... threat?Daniel Jackson wrote:MOTA, I would strongly advise giving that a rest.ManofTheAtom wrote:And the mighty overlord strikes againDaniel Jackson wrote:Not me.betterthanezra wrote:It seems someone bought 4 of these and they already have them on Ebay already look at the BIN and look at the shipping he's still getting that $40 price....

The post didn't have anything that justified taking it out. The only reason he did it was because he's scared of what the lawyer might say next.
Starting today we have to run out posts through Lovitz to see if they're ok.

Before Daniel unnecessarily and unjustly started editing and deleting my posts we were cool, but once that started and he made it clear that content on this board would have to comply with that Michael Lovitz wants it changed.superman-prime wrote:cant we all just get alongwe are all VALIANT fans here ( i might not be able to spell but, i can cap 1 word)
I for one don't plan to let the lawyer dictate what I can or can't say, and if I'm banned for it so be it. At least I'll leave knowing that I did what was right instead of stayed with my tail between my legs afraid to speak my mind.

not that is any of my business.... but this is in "General Valiant discussion" so I guess I can chime in.
Myabe you should be able to post whatever you want, but now you are purposly goading DJ.
So in context you might be correct (post what you want, who cares about the laywer), but in excution, you are going about it the wrong way. (IMO)
