Sure, the art isn't that bad but it certainly is a lot of fun making fun of it. Unfortunately, the criminals behind VIP will likely never present themselves to any of us physically so that we can provide them with a well deserved kick-to-the-groin. Bashing the trash they dare to present to the public will have to satisfy our bloodlust for now.Brother J wrote:actually, I personally don't think the art is as horrid as some of you do, I've seen stuff published that's 10 times worse.

Extortion is probably as accurate a way as there is to describe VIP's intent. The whole idea about trying to hijack the Valiant name and names of characters is what burns my balls the most. I mean, do they really think anyone is so stupid that they would accept this stuff as the real VALIANT? It just seems to me they are fighting a battle for something that's not going to be of value to them even if they would somehow win, anyway. The only way I can see them making out on the deal is if they could use the trademarks to extort money from VEI.

Man are we being a little harsh. Granted, the drawings are not great. But, its not like they are finished comics. I'm assuming these are only sketches. The lack of detail leads me to hope they are not the finished product. They were kind of dumb to try selling the thing. They should have given them away, thats all a rough sketch from an unknown is worth to me.
I too think many of the drawings are familiar. Other than people mentioned, I saw a resemblances to Cable as well. From an outside perspective, I'm sure you could develope interesting comics ideas with those TM's. Our collective "problem", is that we view the TM's and the IP as one in the same. We grew up reading Harbinger, Magnus, and all. Personally, if VIP had made an effort at aquiring the IP, I wouldn't be some angry. The fact is, it seems like they thought no one serious would show up for the auction.

Are we their fanbase?Daniel Jackson wrote:Alienate the fan base
No, we're not.
The sad fact is this:
The war between VIP and VE won't be a war of concepts, it'll be a war of credit boxes.
If VIP gets Grant Morrison, Mark Millar, Neil Gaiman, Frank Miller, or some other big names from comics to work on their titles while all VE can do is get Joe Smoe, John Doe, and Jane Smith, then VIP's fake VALIANT comics will outsell VE's real VALIANT comics.
If VE tries to win the war by using the same tactic then all we'll get is Birthquake and VH 2.
In the end the only ones that loose are the readers.

Too true. Even if those creator's are "mailing it in" fan's will buy on the name alone.ManofTheAtom wrote:Are we their fanbase?Daniel Jackson wrote:Alienate the fan base

If VIP does one shots or minis then they only need to "keep them" for a month or two.
Publishers want to keep readers for more long term projects, like ongoing series.
VIP may only be interested in doing a one shot for each one of the concepts they have.

How long would it have to suck before the average reader drops the title?Daniel Jackson wrote:Big names might draw people in, but it won't keep them.ManofTheAtom wrote:Are we their fanbase?Daniel Jackson wrote:Alienate the fan base

Trying this one on for size...Daniel Jackson wrote:They seem to be terrible business people that's for sure. Alienate the fan base, put out a 40 dollar piece of trash preview.....yeah that's gonna take 'em real far. ..
The VIP "Sneak Peak" at $40 each, limited to 100 copies.
Assuming they all (eventually) sell, which is a reasonable "goal", then the total is $4,000.
Let's say it costs $1.50 each to print them, because if the small quantity,
so that cuts $150 off the $4,000 profit, leaving $3,850.
The cost to ATTEMPT to register 11 trademarks is $350 each, for a total of $3,850.
Now, when VIP finally loses their trademark cases, and ends up with nothing...
they can IMAGINE a "no loss" scenario by pointing out they paid $4,000 to make $4,000.
The end. R.I.P.

I would say within the first couple of issues for some. Maybe 6 or 8 before the rest give it up.X-O HoboJoe wrote:How long would it have to suck before the average reader drops the title?Daniel Jackson wrote:Big names might draw people in, but it won't keep them.ManofTheAtom wrote:Are we their fanbase?Daniel Jackson wrote:Alienate the fan base
