Would anyone happen to have/know where....

Post by kyanther »

I could find old prices from the 90's after the valiant "boom"? I've been trying to explain this to my girlfriend, and when I try to justify dropping 20 bucks for a magnus 12, it's kinda hard to do. I know it's ok, cause I've seen how big this book has been in the past...not to mention COULD be again.
So If no one knows where I could find the info I seek, would it be too much to ask for someone that might have old wizards laying around to but together an image of the listings for me? Please? With a smushed spider-alien on top?

*edit* It would be kinda cool to update the price guide section with a "highest value" section or something...hint hint wink lol

Lol. I know iknow...."UTOH TEH SP3CU74T0RZ R BACK!!". hehe

No, honestly. It's just when I find an older valiant like that, and check the price guide, it sometimes doesn't match up. When I do find them, they are ususally priced higher than they are in the guide at, and it makes it hard to explain that "no, no, it's ok. This is cheap compared to how it was in 94." I'm just trying to get some help so I can justify spending so much on these books. Otherwise I may not get the approval to get em :)

Come on guys, help a brother out!

Thank you so very much greg. Now hopefully I can start getting my collection built back up before the frenzy possibly starts. It's crazy seeing that list! (not to mention how many of those I had before I dropped out of the biz in 96).

I'm so glad valiant is coming back.

Lol. It wouldn't be so bad if she wasn't in college fulltime and could work more...
It's that whole budgeting thing right now mainly that holding me back.

I think this list points out some potential keys we may have forgotten about.
Shadowman 8 used to get a lot more respect than it does now. I still like that book, even with the high print-run.

I should probably point out that other books which were in print at the time
which aren't listed were either "cover price" ($2 to $3) in the guide,
or they weren't known/listed at all (such as Chaos Effect Alpha Red).

Whoa, Hard Corps #5 comic defense and X-O 15 pink worth $30? Seems unbelievable that they ever brought that kind of coin. I think they were selling for maybe 10 bucks at the most around here.

Hopefully this topic helps out some of the newcomers to the valiant world who are too young to know what to look for.

Glad I could start a topic that helps some other people out too!

If the new Valiant publishers approach the old pre-unity quality for several years and put out a fair amount of ongoing titles, those prices will seem low.
Of course, they're going to need outstanding creators and great unity in their universe to pull that off!

I don't think prices will ever be that crazy (90s peak) for the RAW pre-Unity books :atomic:

Me too. I also like to buy Shadowman #1. It's usually cheaper than most of the other pre-unity $1s (except maybe Rai) and it's print run at 50K is lower than many of the other pre-unity #1s. Plus it's Shooter / Lapham. Can't go wrong there.

Maybe I'm just biased because it was one of the books that I always admired on the racks at conventions back in the day, but I think SM #1 is an underated book and I'd buy it all day long at cheap prices.
