Should Barry Windsor-Smith & Bob Layton be brought back?

Post by DK2 »

I was wondering if the new Valiant owners should bring both Barry Windsor-Smith and Bob Layton back into the Valiant universe? Even though they did bring back Jim Shooter for the new story for the upcoming Harbinger hardcover reprint collection (and whether Shooter will continue in any involvement afterward is still a mystery), I wondered if Windsor-Smith and Layton should be brought back in some manner as well? I've checked Layton's website, and he says he's doing some new things with the new Valiant folks but couldn't say anything yet. Wonder what its is?

Still, its also a mystery as to what the new Valiant will be doing after the Harbinger book, and anything after that.

I think Shooter and BWS would be the big 2 to bring back.

Layton I could take it or leave it to be honest.

Yeah, if VEI can afford them & if they buy into the new Valiant. No sense in turning great talent down. :thumb:

I love BWS artwork - and I'm not a huge "art" fan as long as it gets the point across, I'm good with it in Comic Books). But BWS, I'd definitely look forward to seeing (I'm actually re-reading some of his comics from Uncanny X-men at the moment).

If it were up to me, I'd definitely bring back Layton. He's been pretty good to the fans and obviously has a fondness for the Valiant universe and characters.

BWS, on the other hand, I'm not so sure about. Yeah, he's a great artist and I think Valiant's downhill slide really began with his departure, but he draws the same face on every character and it gets really old after a while. Plus, from what I hear, he's been a pretty big dick to the fans over the years refusing to sign Valiant books at cons and such. I think it was one of the members here who asked him sign a copy of Bloodshot #1 that was already signed by Don Perlin(?) and BWS griped about it and asked "Why is he signing my book?" I'm not sure I want to reward that kind of jackassery.

Should they? Of course as long as they fit into the plan.

Will they? Well Layton has already said that he did a couple things for the new Valiant so that is a yes.

As for BWS I would love to see something new from him but I just don't think he has the passion for comics anymore.

BWS is the *SQUEE*!!! <---- compliment.
Look at Van Gogh's paintings don't they kinda all look the same? But then again no....BWS style is also unique, in a Van Gogh way,and I'm not sure it can ever be duplicated. To me his work always stood out above all the others. It never got old for me, And I for one would definately want to see him back!!

Yeah I think thats an undeserved diss on BWS. BWS strength lies in the way he can tell a story with his art and he has a very unique style.

I think its a bit of stretch to say all his faces look the same. When I read his A&As I know which one is Archer and which one is Armstrong.

I'd want Bart Sears to be back. I hope Joe Quesada if I'm dreaming.

I like him more after reading A&O or Storyteller, not after reading that.

I say yes. The real question is who would you rather have back---Shooter or Layton? I don't have anything against Layton, but Valiant was at it's best when Shooter was at the helm.
If they could both co-exist together at Valiant (Shooter running things/writing and Layton as an artist), then I say absolutely bring them back.

Don't take it so seriously. I seem to remember whoever it was that got the book signed did say BWS said it without any malice. :thumb:

I'm just of the mindset that I'd like to buy any new books he puts out, but I don't really ever want to stand in line to get his autograph.
