I think they might be onto something...Turok 1, as with any of the Deathmate books, could be recycled as toilet paper. Plentiful, cheap and falls apart in the middle, causing a big mess. This would make a bundle overseas

This book is "the" key Valiant book. This is the modern day Hulk 181,X-Men 94,Spider-Man 300 etc...I wish I had 100 of'em! Right now,$20-$25 for one of the most important books in the last 15 years is a steal!

It's like you're reading my mind. (... or reading my posts...) :P

Absolutely. A "limited variant" of some book that doesn't matter is a "limited doesn't matter".

Harbinger 1 seems even more key with the first relaunch offering featuring Harbinger!

I understand that you usually won't find quite as many good deals as compared to regular pre-unity and Acclaim low-print run titles, but it seems like it would be a good time to scoop them up as most of them aren't that high. I got most of mine for $15 or less.

Do you guys (and girls) think these types of comics will benefit as much as, let's say, pre-unity issues when VALIANT makes their much anticipated, long overdue, and successfully magnificent comeback - all the while slowly securing - ONCE AGAIN - a top spot in the comic industry's list of top players (hallelujah !!)

Whachu think...
I don't think that golds and incentives would be the best way to go. What I have noticed, and I am sure there are others that have a better perspective about this, is that variants initially go up in value quite a bit, but then decline, never reaching the initial high values. This happens all the time with all the new variant covers that come out for every other book being put out these days. A really hot one will come out, it will sell for a lot, then after a year or two the price will drop to pretty reasonable.

The only exception to this seems to be variants of books for which the non-variant version is itself a valuable book. The prominent example I can think of of this is Ultimate Spider-Man 1. The regular issue is itself probably the most valuable book put out this decade (except oddballs like Mouse Guard 1). The variant of this book went up pretty high in value (though it has dropped from it's peak, it seems).

There aren't any gold or variant books for which the regular version is a really desirable book, investment wise. The only one that come close is A&A 0. If I were gonna invest in any gold book, it would probably be that one. Maybe eternal warrior 1. Turok 1 gold? HARDCorps 1 gold? Rai 9 gold? Forget it. They may increase in value a bit, but the regular edition of those books are a joke from an investment view.

If I had $100 and I could buy 10 Harbinger 1s or 10 of ANY gold book, I would buy the Harbinger 1s, if it were just from an investment view. I would trade any of my gold books for a Harbinger 1 in the same condition (except my A&A 0 gold).

Whaddo other folks think about this?
I would agree with this - in your example I would def. take the HARBY 1's over any gold issue I think - I don't know - I just think that if you found good deals on them - they would probably be a good investment. They will probably always sell for a decent profit (assuming you got a DEAL on them - any book that you purchase overpriced isn't going to help very much). But I agree - if you have the KEY investment issues (HARBY 1, SOLAR 10, RAI 3, etc...) and you can find them at a reasonable price - BUY THEM UP NO MATTER WHAT - BUY THEM FOR ME- SELL THEM ON THE BOARD - WHATEVER! JUST BUY THEM IF THEY ARE AT A GOOD PRICE.

So...as far as investment books go - use your head - VALIANTS aren't at a price right now that will make you a millionaire. But then again - maybe right now is the perfect time to buy them up.... They might just make you that next thousandaire next year :D I am drunk as hell right now - just got home from an interesting bar and am wondering why the hell I got here so damn quick....

Here's a guys description of a Harbinger #1 on Ebay right now.....

"Harbinger #1 Pre Unity with coupon. This is a mint copy with four sharp corners, white pages, and no creases or marks. It does have some manufacturer stresses along the spine that are hardly noticable"

.........please define Mint for me.

That's funny. reminds me of a couple years ago, I was talking to some guy in a LCS about making a comic and getting mint scent to smear all over it. You caould always say it is in "mint" condition that way.
