You want a story, I'll give you a story!
Hi. I've been lurking around for the past week, and decided that before I start adding my 2 cents to any of the posts, I should take the time to introduce myself first, and tell my Valiant story.
Well, I first took the Valiant plunge in August '92. After hearing all kinds of great things, and seeing a sale for Archer & Armstrong #0, and the entire set of Unity books through American Entertainment (remember them), I decided to take a chance and order the books. While I was waiting for my books to arrive, I was at my LCS and starting looking through the back issue bins to see what kind of Valiant books they had. Most of them were out of my price range (I was a starving college student at the time), but I came across a copy of Rai #0 for cover price. The cover just jumped out at me, so I decided to buy it, even though my other books hadn't arrived yet. I was hooked. I picked up every book that came out since then (and even went back and picked up most of the pre-unity books) until late '95/early '96. Due to the comic book store I ran within Georgia Tech's bookstore going under, and no longer being able to buy all my books at cost, I had to cut the number of book I bought in half, and the Valiant books were among them. I'm definitely regretting it now, but at the time, I just wasn't happy with the quality of the stories once Acclaim took over publishing the VH1 books.
Flash forward to the beginning of this month...I had long forgotten about Valiant, when I saw a solicitation for the Harbinger HC. The memories started flooding back. I had to find out more about what was going on...was the Valiant Universe actually returning? I started googling like crazy, and discovered this site...I was in heaven! After finding, and printing out the checklist, I pulled the long boxes that housed my Valiant books from storage to see what I had or didn't have, and have since been on a mad spending spree to buy all the books I was missing (good thing I just started a new, higher paying job so I can afford these books). Which brings me to now. I am so stoked about this HC coming out in August (I just placed my order with my LCS today), and the possibility of new books coming out. I'm also looking forward to Comic-Con this year, and trying to see what kind of deals on Valiant books I can get (like a set of Magnus 1-8 w/coupons...mine have the coupons missing), as well as attending the Valiant panel and meeting some of you fine folks. Valiant's second coming just made an already great year even better.

Welcome Derek!
Your story about Rai 0 broght back memories for me. That cover had the same effect of me when I saw it for the first time. It just blew me away. I actually made a giant poster of the cover art for my LCS by tracing the original without the logo onto art paper, blowing it up at Kinko's and having it printed onto cardstock, and then repainting the red and black. It was awesome! My LCS owner gave me his gold Rai 9 for that promo.
Somewhere I still have a white sweatshirt with that cover art on it that I used to wear to cons. Maybe some day I will make it to San Diego for ComicCon and wear it again
