I actually bought a trade today.... the book one hardcover of Annihilation. I loved the story so much i wanted it in trade, and I also had never read the Drax story before, and that was in there.

I'll buy the rest of the hardcovers when I find them cheap to complete the set.

Monthly I'm getting

Captian America
Amazing Spiderman
World War Hulk
Hellboy
Madman
BPRD

I just got a lot of Civil War and Annihalition backissues and I was very impressed with most of them.

Also I just tried the lastest Franklin Richards, Boy Genius and it was a joy to read (very funny, clever stuff).

I also loved the lastest issue of Marvel Adventures Iron Man I read in the store. Lots of quirky, cool looking action. I might have to check out Marvel Adventures Hulk too, its free comic book day story was awesome. It's kind of nice to have clever self contained action adventures without the endless soap opera subplots and crossovers. And the mini Marvel back ups are priceless.

I wish I could claim it, but I just happened to stumble upon the piece online (I believe it's in a Peterson gallery) and thought I'd use it to help promote the book's concept from time to time.

Thanks for asking.

Recently read the following trades:

Rex Mundi Vol 1-3: All were very good. If you like Templar mythology then these are a good read. In fact I think they do a great job of showing what a graphic novel can be.

Conan: Book of Thoth: Another great Conan tale, but focused on his enemies origin. I really enjoyed it. This fits in real well if explaining his relationship with Karanthes in the regular series.

Civil War: Just showed me how messed Marvel is right now.

I am about to read:
52 Vol 1
Mouseguard HC
Loveless
Jonah Hex
Fables
All Star Vol 1

I have quite a few trades to read. So far Rex Mundi has been most the intriguing.

I picked up Welcome to Tranquility 1-7 after reading about it here from Leonmallet, I think.

I've read through 1 - 5 so far. I like it ok. I think I'd like it better without the old style pages in the book. The only one I've really liked so far is the one with Capt. Crag or whatever his name is.

The story is good, but it's taking a long time to finish out the first arc. To me, the character that was killed was probably the neatest character in the series.

I'll make up my decision to add it to my sub or not after issue 7. Right now, I'm right in the middle. It's better than your average book, but not the best book out there, IMO.

I hope that Sweet Sally gets killed by a *SQUEE* piercing his brain.

Nice art is about all Valiant had going for them toward the end of most the series. They had officially become Image at that point....

A mini review of this weeks comics:

This week, X-Factor #21 wins from a meagre pull featuring that, Green Arrow Year One #1 (good) and Punisher War Journal #9 (slow).

Dysfunctional family soap opera in a corner of the Marvel Universe where 'action' is a footnote and change 'sticks'. Peter David clearly loves these characters and every word they speak rings true.

I must disagree. I had a healthy pull (for me) and thoroughly enjoyed my comics.

The one DC comic was JSA. Good stuff, I have no idea who Commander Steel was, but this story is very human without seeming forced. And it's good to see Cyclone getting more familiar with using her powers productively.

X-Factor was a clear stand-out, always has been. Is PAD leaving the book when he takes over She-Hulk? Even the back-up story was satisfying.

New Excalibur, Exiles and Omega Flight were satisfying reads, for me. Sort of niche books, but I am particularly interested in what is happening with Sage - she killed the evil Scott Summers (from another universe) and evil Jean Grey (from the same other universe) is playing quite the manipulator. Pete Wisdom is up to his usual trickery, and working outside everyone else with evil Hank McCoy and evil Warren Worthington. Most disappointing, none of the evil counterparts from another universe have goattees. That's rule one of evil counterparts from other universes - you have a goattee like Spock.

The real payoff - Nova 4 and Annihilation Conquest: the Wraith 1. Annihilation Conquest is shaping up really well. Gamora has been phalanx'd and is going after her former paramour, but I certainly did not see the cliffhanger coming. The Wraith reminds me a lot of Kai, Last of the Brunnen G from Lexx. That sort of character is difficult to write because his motivations are so different, but I am very eager to see where this one goes.

I don't know, I hope not, I'd love to see a few 'names' take a stab at X-Factor but I don't think many writers really care about the characters. Which is a shame, because right now it reads kind of like a 'grown up' Runaways.

Still, very much enjoying it while it lasts.

Read 6 and 7. I don't think I'm going to add it to the sub. It's a good book, but not worth $3 less 25%. For me, there are just too many characters and it skips around a little too much (which are both things that I usally like about comics, but this is over the top for me). The 2 characters that intrigued me the most are Mr. Articulate and Emoticon......

*********** SPOILERS *********

And Mr. A is dead and Emoticon's face was kind of a disappointment. To me, she should have teased the showing of the face, but not show it so soon in the series (especially being that weak of a scar).

****** End Spoilage ***************

I'd say that it's probably the best work that I've read from Simone, but it's still not all that. It's a good book, but there are other books I'd rather spend my money on.
