Would the Defiant characters fit in the Valiant universe?
Does anybody own the rights to the Defiant characters? If not, would they fit in with the Valiant characters? Should Valiant pursue them?

There's obviously a void in the Valiant universe without the Gold Key characters. I think there's an outstanding chance this relaunch will work if quality is at the forefront, but consider the following:
If the new owners are unable to acquire the rights to the Gold Key characters maybe they could acquire the rights to the Defiant and Broadway characters. They wouldn't have to use all of them, but it would be sweet to see a few characters from those companies return.
Would any of those characters fit in the Valiant universe?

I think Fatale, Till Death Does Us Part, and Star Seed from Broadway might, but I have my doubts about Knights on Broadway (which I really liked, but don't see as working in the VALIANT U due to the future war hinted in it. If that aspect were somehow altered, then the overall concept MIGHT work as a VALIANT comic).comicmark wrote:There's obviously a void in the Valiant universe without the Gold Key characters. I never read any Defiant, so I wouldn't know about those.

I don't see how most of the Defiant characters could fit in Valiant without
destroying both.
A few would work like The Good Guys (think Good Guys vs Harbinger) and maybe Shadowman and Dark Dominion.
The rest of them like War Dancer, Warriors of Plasm, Dogs of War, and the rest wouldn't work.
Broadway would really mesh better with Defiant than Valiant.
Doesn't Solar guest star in Harbinger #5?

IIRC all of the Broadway characters are co-owned by Shooter and Random House.

Would Defiant characters work in the VALIANT U? No, I dont think so. That would be like..hmm, chocolate chip and lobster cookies. Great apart.. but not so great together.
Besides, if DNV even tried to make that happen that would greatly reduce their chances of success.
Um, why did Defiant stop publishing??

Warriors of Plasm would not fit, but what's wrong with a character like Charlemagne? Charlemagne might do well in the Valiant universe, in my opinion.
The Good Guys might fit, though I wonder if they could even use those characters without permission since they were based on real people.
I just threw this topic out mainly because I'd like to see at least a few of these characters return to comics, and I thought it was at least worth a good discussion.

If VE doesn't get the rights to the Gold Key characters, I think it is a great opportunity to create some new characters around the core original characters they do have rights to. I didn't read Defiant or Broadway, and I am sure that they had some very good characters and stories, but it just doesn't make sense to use these older characters instead of creating some brand new ones. Just my two cents.comicmark wrote:There's obviously a void in the Valiant universe without the Gold Key characters.
