Valiant Comics Bittorrent...?

Post by BodaZoffa »

Alright,

After spending the last week downloading the Valiant collection off of Z-Cult, I finally have it completed. Thanks SOTU...!

Now, my question is I have a bunch of CBR & CBZ files that I don't know what to do with. I thought I was pretty PC savvy, but I guess not. What program do I use to burn these to disc with. Nero, Alchohol 120%.etc?

Please help.... Boda

CONGRATS, now we gotta get Knight a copy of everything. I can burn them all for him but If some of you can maybe burn a CD and we all pitch in we can get Knight everything in the Bittorrent.

Now that you got it all figured out Boda it's pretty fuggin cool huh? I hadn't ever used CDisplay until now, it's simplicity is fabulous, perfect for reading comics!

Any of you who have the blank CD's and time to burn Knight a CD of Valiant books he's missing from the Bittorrent would be great.

Let us know what you're missing, I'll start burning once I know what you need. I probably could do it all but it might be better if we share in the fun! :P :thumb:

I could burn this entire volum onto a DVD using Roxio in a matter of minutes. If Knigt pm's me his address I could mail it out to him.

Your file sizes must be smaller than mine. I was planning to burn the entire package to a DVD but it came to about 5GB. And I haven't found any dual-layered DVDs around here yet.

Are you burning dual-layered or sending them on two DVDs?

Thanks

I've got a little over 3.5 Gigs. If you have an rar file, extract the files & then delete the rar. If you don't do this, you pretty much have everything twice.... one set of files extracted & a second set compressed.

Knightt...

Sent you a PM. I burned the Valiant collection onto disc along with the entire Miracleman collection & Wolverine Origin.

Give Miracleman a chance. The first 3-4 issues are slow readers, but it really picks up after that. One of the best reads you will ever find in comics.

There are some different sets of scans out there. And the bittorrent is incomplete. The total is about 5G.

No, no. As far as I know there is no complete torrent. I only know of one torrent and it is not complete. That's what I wrote. This reminds me, how can I make a torrent and publish it?

Your best bet is to go to the Z-Cult site and look in the FAQ:

Magnus, I'm guessing you have them all by now. I'd certainly be looking forward to you making a torrent ... if that's what you had in mind. :thumb:

Valiant torrents versus a gigatorrent

Post by Steve Topper »

I've been thinking about building a set of Valiant torrents (like magnus), but I don't want to build a single 3.5 - 5 GB torrent. That could take people forever and a year to download. What I am thinking about is a separate torrent for each title or a group of titles (probably around 650MB or CD sized).

For example I could group Archer & Armstrong (142MB for all 27 issues), Eternal Warrior (361MB for 55 issues) and Timewalker (153MB for 17 issues) -- or 656 MB for the three Immortals.

Other groupings could be X-O Manowar by itself at 594MB for 75 issues; Harbinger, HARD Corps, and Visitor; etc.

Just a thought
Steve

That sounds like an awesome idea Steve. Is your run complete?

Complete?

Post by Steve Topper »

I consider it complete, although technically I am missing some issues from the "official" checklist. What I am missing and why:

Archer & Armstrong - 0 Gold - story available in A&A 0
Armorines - 0 Gold, 0 Card stock, 1 VVSS - stories available in regular editions
Bloodshot - 0 Gold, 0 VVSS, 6 VVSS - Stories available in regular editions
Chaos Effect - Alpha Red, Omega Gold - Stories available in regular editions
Deathmate - none of the Gold editions, the Tourbook, and the Pink Preview - Golds same reason as before, Tourbook doesn't contain any story (I think! - I haven't checked my Tourbook hardcopy recently) and Pink is reprinted in one of the other Preview books (Green or Orange), and I don't have both Green Previews - I felt one copy was enough
Eternal Warrior - 0 Gold, 0 Embossed, 27 VVSS - same reasons as previous
Geomancer - 0 VVSS - same as before
HARD Corps - 0 Gold, 5 Comic Defense - same as before
Harbinger - 0 Pink and Harbinger TPBs - stories are available in issues I have
Magnus - 21 Gold, 27 VVSS, 57 Error - same as previous
Ninjak - 1 Gold - same as previous
Predator vs Magnus - 1 Platinum, TPB - stories available in regular editions
Psi-Lords - 1 Gold, 1 VVSS - story available in regular edition
Rai (and the Future Force) - 9 Gold, 9VVSS, 21 VVSS, TPBs - stories available in regular editions
Dr Mirage - 1 Gold - story available in regular edition
Secret Weapons - 21 VVSS - story available in regular edition
Shadowman - 0 gold, 0 non-chrome, 0VVSS, TPB - stories available in regular editions
Solar - 0 HC, 10 2nd print, Second Death TPB - stories available in regular editions
Timewalker - 1 VVSS - story available in regular edition
Turok - 1 Gold, 1 VVSS - story available in regular edition
Unity - easier to just say I have 0,1, and both epilogues because the rest are reprints.
X-O Manowar - 1/2 Gold, Database VVSS, 0 Gold, 15 Pink, and TPBs - these contain reprints of regular editions
Miscellaneous:
Magnus/Nexus Preview Advance - included in regular Magnus/Nexus series
Valiant Era TPB - reprints regular editions
Valiant Free-View - contains advance look at upcoming stories which get included in regular editions.

So essentially, I have a complete set of the stories, not a 100% checklist set. So for reading pleasure, the set is complete.

Was this a long-winded enough answer?

An updated, near complete run of Valiant Comics (pre-Acclaim Comics era) was posted yesterday at Z-Cult FM: http://zcultfm.com/~comic/viewtopic.php?t=11396. You'll need a BitTorrent client, plus 5.1+ gigabytes of free disk space.

This new torrent posting supercedes the previous 3.5 gigabyte torrent at Z-Cult FM.

that sucks

I'm only 50% of the way down with the old 3.5 gig torrent.

I wish it was posted as a "diff" torrent.

I did a quick scan ... the only book that I saw that was missing was the Outcast Special? Are there any others missing?

I use Shareaza for my bit torrent client.

From the tracker listing, I downloaded the torrent (DL on the tracker)

then from Shareaza, I open up the torrent. then from Shareaza, I wait for a long time for the download to complete... then I'll have the complete .cbz file.

http://www.shareaza.com/ open source client, no spyware! :thumb:

let me know how that goes for you.

I use Bit Torrent and get the following message: 'trouble accessing files -[Errno 24] Too many opens files: 'F"\\Comics\\Valiant Comics\\Solar Man of the Atom\\Solar Man of the Atom #15.cbz'

I ONLY have gotten this error message EVER with the Valiant torrent.

Any ideas ?
Switching to one of the 3rd party Bittorrent clients should resolve that problem. Its usually only the official program that has errors like that.

also, (I just re-read you post closer)

try opening the cbz with WinRAR. see what the files are like. see if that can open it, then try re-saving it. maybe the cbz file needs "repackaged".

what version of cbz viewer are you using?

on the tracker site, you can not download the torrent?
clicking on the DL does nothing?

are you behind a firewall or do you have a popup blocker?
