This arc sucks. Everything about it from the kids who are Norman's, but one looks like Peter, to the advanced aging to Gwen gave it up to Norman. It's weak that writers have to put bs in the "off panel" storyline to come up with a story. Whats next? Aunt May giving blow jobs to pay rent after Uncle Ben died. Come on.
Aunt May giving BJs

Now, that's funny. I  my *SQUEE* off. :thumb:

It could be worse. It could be any of the OTHER Spider-Man story arcs running right now. Or one of the X-books.
On a sidenote, Ric--this thread and your username gives me flashbacks of the time when a LOT of Spider-Man fans were complaining about John Byrne and Howard Mackie's revamp of the Spider-books five (or maybe six, since SPIDER-MAN: CHAPTER ONE started in late 1998) years ago.

I lost track of how many times I saw the term "Byrne out" on various message boards when they were using it to refer to how much they hated what Byrne was doing on the books (or used whenever Byrne left one of the titles).

Anyway, I'm hoping JMS can pull this story off, cause otherwise, there'd be another flaming uproar similar to that.

I'd never have made that connection with my user name, Spider. Now I'm going to have to fend off a bunch of comic books geeks as well as hiding from all the wrestling marks...

...oh, wait, those geeks includes ME. Damn.

:)

And I doubt anything will match the uproar that was generated due to the Spider-Clones...

Oh yeah, it couldn't match that. But that revamp came close, though. Very close.

On another look, it's an interesting story that has been interweaved into the Spidey mythology. Little sad to see Gwen just poke some dood when she's suppose to be dating Parker but when you overlook that (I know it's hard but try), you get a good understanding of why Norman Osborn was such a freaking lunatic towards Peter. Like Peter says in the book, "It all suddenly makes so much sense", and it really does. :P

As a younger guy who's only heard the whole Gwen tragedy a million times per flashback, I have less invested intrest in Gwen and so much more in MJ. But I can see where the older guys really cringes and go on the war path over this. It's like finding out your first true love from high school, whom you thought was a sweet, inocent virgin, and who was ENTIRELY into you was really boinking the entire football team when you were in band practice. I'm sure you'd STILL be *SQUEE* when you found out 10 years later that Depluto was feeling up the goods out back when you were tooting your own horn...alone.

And for the record, if my woman had a banana in her pie with my mortal enemy but then believed that I would take care of his kids out of the kindness of my heart... OMFG NO!

I found this post on the Mutant Liberation Front Board by Zaphod. It's JMS comment regarding fans who called Gwen a 'slut' and things of that nature.

Okidoki, so white chocolate is an offense? Seems JMS seriously needs to check his priorities...

Gwen is obviously a slut, because she bumped uglies with Norman Osborne. And this is just another stupid attempt to rewrite Spider-Man's history. Sometimes Marvel really sucks.

Gwen is a ho. Mary Jane rocks.

I think JMS put his foot in his mouth with the really hard core fans who give a crap.

I like the man's work. The hardcore fans are dicks.

Let me break it down for you. You can't let Peter face lesser criminals because the hardcore "fans" biatch the story becomes sucky. You can't let Peter drift with status qoue stories cause the hardcore "fans" whine it's to boring. You can't deliever in depth stories and new interesting twist cause then the hardcore fans complain it degrades us all. WTF do the hardcore fans want? TELL ME!!! WHAT DO YOU 40 YEAR OLD *SQUEE* WANT? Screw them, their time to enjoy spidey has passed. It's my time to enjoy spidey and after some some rethinking I say the current story is enlightling. If some 40 year old Joe in his parents basement wants to write flame email then all I can say is "GET A JOB!". Jebsus.

Please. MJ and Gwen got busy in a drug induced haze in the pages of Amazing Spiderman #97....

...or did you not know why it wasn't code approved.......?

You'd have to be a in drug haze to ride the baloney pony with a 50-year-old angry white guy who wears his hair like Latrell Sprewell.

Lez action in 97? Really?

I guess JMS shouldn't really have defend his story; by trying to defend/explain his views, I think, he put his foot in his mouth. JMS story arcs are great spidey stories (in a long while).

 The problem with 'spidey' is that everytime things change, the fans always complain. I mean why the F@#! is Aunt may not dead; she looks ten years younger than she did back in AMS 130-189. She should have stayed dead in AMS 400, but of course the fans wanted her to come back.

The clone story got out of hand as it progressed, but would it be that big of deal if the clone actually took on Peter's place back in AMS 149. Again, it was fan pressure which brought Peter back.

What is the point in writing these stories if they just unwrite them later? :!:

But i digress (I hope JMS takes out Aunt May :P ) :atomic:

There's more truth to this statement than you realize.

Not sure how many of you are aware of this, but apparently the "Trouble" miniseries revealed that Aunt May cheated on Uncle Ben as a teenager, had underage premarital sex with Peter's Dad, thus getting pregnant with Peter, then gave up the baby to be raised by Peter's "parents", then when they died Peter ended up going back to be raised by Uncle Ben and his biological Mom, Aunt May.

Apparently this was supposed to be the real story of Peter's "origins". But for obvious reasons, Marvel later declared that none of it actually happened.

"He has a healing factor... That's why in ten years, they've grown twenty. Er. So their aging factor is accelerating... And Norman Osborn doesn't exhibit accelerated aging at all. So why do they?"

I realize this discussion is two years old, but since I've already bumped it I thought I'd throw this out there as well. :)

On the issue of why the kids grew so quickly, yet Norman has never shown signs of accelerated aging, "aging" and "growing" are not the same. Really they're pretty much entirely separate phenomena.

It's entirely feasible (particularly in the world of comics) that someone could have accelerated growth AND be immune to the effects of aging. It's also possible that Norman always had accelerated growth, but since people typically only "grow" from childhood through young adulthood, the effects were simply never shown in the comics since he was already fully-grown when he first appeared.

And since "aging" is, after all, damage to your body over time on the cellular level, it's perfectly logical that someone with a superhuman healing factor would show little to no signs from the aging process.
