CGC grading of Trade Paperbacks
Here's the official response from Gemma:
So it looks like slabbing the Unity Diamond TPB might be out since I think it's thicker than 1/4" (Someone might want to measure it.)CGC cannot encapsulate any books thicker than 1/4" or any trade paperbacks with a hard cover.

There are only two copies on the census. From what I know the other copy is the original and not the blue variant. The original was graded in 2003 or 2004!! CGC hasn't seen another copy until recently, so they probably didn't know a blue variant existed!! If more copies where graded then CGC would able to distinquish between the two.mrwoogieman wrote:Why doesn't the label list it as a variant, I wonder?mnc93 wrote:Most VALIANT trades can be slabbed. The Diamond Unity trades are just too big.

Sometimes they don't bother to do the research even when you mark something as a variant on the invoice and it is not already in their database.mrwoogieman wrote:You need to tell them when you submit something like this that it's the variant version. CKB has returned a few variants because they didn't get it right on the label.
CGC has only been in business since 2000...
My advice would be to make a phone call to them for any "new" variant that you are having slabbed.
Some of the mistakes they've made I still have sitting in my collection waiting for the next time I ship books to them. They do pick up the cost when they goof.
I think I have a 9.6 Blue Rai (or maybe a Harbinger), but have not been lucky enough to have one that looks as good as the one listed here, including the one that was untouched from when I got it from Diamond. So, good show! Thanks for posting the scan.
Sorry! Correction made. I made the post at 3 am. I was a little tired!!mrwoogieman wrote:You need to tell them when you submit something like this that it's the variant version. CKB has returned a few variants because they didn't get it right on the label.

The problem is I am tired of getting back Valiant books with wrong labels. For instance, I sent in a Shadowman #0 (gold edition) twice and CGC still didn't even add gold edition to the label after indicating it was a gold edition.ckb wrote:Sometimes they don't bother to do the research even when you mark something as a variant on the invoice and it is not already in their database.mrwoogieman wrote:You need to tell them when you submit something like this that it's the variant version. I will be sending in some valiants to CGC very soon for label corrections and a few more surprises.
