One SCARY AS HELL auction!

Post by ZephyrWasHOT!! »

This auction is FRIGHTENING. The CGC books, by themelves, are easily $100,000....BUT...

No escrow. No pickups. No feedback for almost FIVE years, and ONLY 3 total.

Wow.

Are you as scared of fraud as I am?

Seems like it could be an account hijack OR He has simply been putting this run together over the last 5 years via non ebay means and has decided to sell it

But

With no pick ups or escrow makes it kinda fishy :?
Welcome to the Jungle!!

No it wasn't me that did that!!

Apparently at least 7 other people are willing to risk their hard earned cash to find out. I would steer clear of this one.

It's listed as 1-300. Where are #200 to #300?

he only listed the graded books. I would guess that 200-300 are just not graded...doesnt he know that the big book in that set is #300..I mean TODD McFarlane did that book. I love that the reserve was set below $6000...not bad since the #1 is probably worth that much not to mention the 9.2 #2...I would touch this one with Zeph's pole and dino holding it... :thumb:

Ewww.

Dino's not touching my pole.

Alas...it was a fraud auction, fo sho. I was one of the bidders, and last night, the seller 'approached' me and offered to end the auction 'early' at $6100. So, deciding to have a little fun, I 'took the bait'.

FULL on shill, on top of everything, by the seller, to get to the $6100 *I* was offered, and then to the $7000 he/she ended it at.
Hell, the 9.4 Spidey #14 ALONE is worth almost that much.

You know, of course, that either these books are STOLEN....or, it's a fraud all the way around.

In any event, from a reputable dealer, if this lot were real, it'd end up in the $75,000-$100,000 range fo sho.

Do the math. What's a Spidey #100 9.8 worth? #101? #14 9.4?

We're talking $50,000 just in the first twenty BOOKS. :)

Couple of $8,000 retracted bids in there. Read the explanation on why they pulled their bids. This guy is a crook.

So I got a response saying 'do you still want it?'

I say 'sure!'

They say 'ok, high bidder backed out (uh huh) go ahead and send the money.

Should I do it? Should I, should I??

<smirk>

God, but it's tempting, though. :)

What if it's LEGIT?

Yes, yes, I know, chances of that are about as good as a snowball's in Knightt's asscrack, but STILL...

:)

I did, but I can't remember where to find it. They did a great job of scamming the scam artist on that one.

Hey Zeph.... Request an escrow service, & see if he gives you a fake one.

Find out where the guy is located and see if one of us, as you, can come and deliver the money in person and pic the books up.

gotta figure out how to scam the scammer...
Tell him your money is tied up in a Nigerian ex-ambassador's wife's lottery, and that you need to borrow a thousand dollars to get it out.

I posted it in the "Everything Else" forum some time ago. Don't know if it's still there.

Basically, this one guy who was selling his friend's laptop received an e-mail from a potential buyer who was really a scammer. So then he went to the Something Awful forums, asked them what to do to humiliate the scammer. They eventually agreed on messing with the scammer, and pretended to use the fake escrow link provided while they found out a little more info.

The seller and the SA Goons also decided to send a fake laptop (a binder with some keys glued on it), and most people agreed to donate some money to the seller so that he'd be able to pay for the costly shipping, insurance, etc. That way, they'd end up forcing the scammer to pay about a hundred bucks or so for a fake laptop.

And it went through mostly okay.

<laughs>...look what I found:

Image

That is the pic I was sent when I requested it from the seller of this bogus auction....

and THIS is the pic I found on Comiclink:

http://www.comiclink.com/./itemdetail.a ... &id=577482

Look familiar? They're the same pic, minus a little doctoring to remove the '4-2'...except....they obviously don't know that the book is (A) pedigreed (see the 'ohio' in there?) and (B) serial numbered.

Also...if you look VERY closely, you'll see that the #1, #3, and #5 pictured match serial numbers for corresponding books at Comiclink currently.

VERY clever girl....
