I always had a soft spot for Savage Dragon (and its spin-offs) and also Stormwatch (which really stepped up toward the end of the first volume, stepped up again with Ellis and Hitch in volume 2 and gave us the Authority. In point of fact I was pleased to see some of the classic Stormwatch characters in the most recent Stowmwatch PHD.
VEI - I look forward to you one day publishing MORE than 9-10 books per month

Stormwatch was excellent later on . . .

I really liked DV8, Deathblow, Wildcats (again got really good later with Moore taking over) . . .

I bash them but actually have a bunch of their books and my bashing comes from love . . . . :)

Wildstar was awesome and Mike Grell's Shaman's Tears.

Not that they lasted very long, like.

I still read Savage Dragon today - it's a great book! (when it comes out)

I also remember liking WildC.A.T.s and most of Shaman's Tears.

And, of course, I was completely taken in by Spawn. :)

The cover of Wildcats #2 sure was pretty.

Other than that... eh.

I've been buying Savage Dragon too lately. I find a lot of them in complete chunks in the bargain bins in great shape, so as I find them, I'll put together a run.

I respect that book because it's blatant fun, it's still published AND it's still published in a contiguous fashion! If I ever really get a big chunk of it, I'll probably start buying it of the newsstand.

Maybe if someone offers me a great deal on a back issue chunk at a con I'd do that too...

I've only got about a longbox of !mage books other than the few Dragons I've been buying. Spirit of the Tao was a cool series, I liked Battlechasers but got burnt out of it near the end when the last few issues were over a year late or whatever (same with Danger Girl which was fun).

I gave up on Spawn early on and never looked back, hated Youngblood, but Wild Cats was cool.

Like Dragon, sometimes I'll buy random older !mage out of the bargain bins to check them out.... I have a lot of stragglers...

oh *SQUEE*! I totally forgot about Maxx and Hellshock... I never think of the Maxx as an Image title, but I loved that book... and, somehow, a lot of cute girls in high school read it with me... And Hellshock... I didn't finally buy the last issue until a few years ago, but I remember loving the first one back when it came out. On re-read, I still really really liked it. Completely forgot about the hardcover - definitely need to pick that up!

I very much enjoyed the first two volumes of Shadowhawk as well. Might have to go dig those out and do some reading.

I have various issues of early Image books filling up about half a box. Really, the Shadowhawk and Spawn books are the only ones I'd actually feel bad about getting rid of.

Well, Spawn was pretty to look at, if not much to read.

I tend to follow WRITERS (then Artists) instead of Publisher...

So stuff by Alan Moore, Warren Ellis, etc. always merited some consideration from me. :thumb:

I also bought Savage Dragon from 1 - 120+ That was the only long-time Image Series I kept up.

I am shamed by that special place in my heart for the original Brigade mini-series.

I really liked Atlas. And they kill him off. Those *SQUEE*.

I didn't get into Spawn much. I didn't even read any Spawn books until I traded with Squirrel for a set of the first 25 issues in a set of 5 TPBs. It didn't include issue 10 because it was written by Dave Sims and there was some sort of gentleman's agreement between Sims and MacFarlane. I really want to read that issue one of these days.

I 'dug' Image from the first issue. I liked Spawn, WildCATs, Cyberforce, Wetworks, Stormwatch and Deathblow. Then, I went after Fathom, Witchblade and The Darkness. And I am currently trying to complete the runs on these with the exception of Spawn as it rails agains my religious belief and one could admit that it is pretty controversial in it's concepts.

But the other titles, I always thought and still do think that they are GREAT. I am not very fond of the current attempt to ressurect these titles but they are 'ok'... just not worth my money. I would rather read the 'old stuff' any day of the week. When I stopped collecting Valiant after Chaos Effect, I still kept up with Image/Top Cow.

I dunno... just a bunch of books from a great time in my life AND the comic book BOOM was in full swing. It was a very enjoyable time for me and my only mistake out of buying Image was actually buying five copies of Wildstar just because I thought 'with a cover like THAT, how could I go wrong. At one point, I was buying one copy to read, one to store for me and one to store for my son. I remember $40 a WEEK comic book bills. Now I try not to do even THAT with new books.

The current Wildstorm stuff looks great too (I still consider Wildstorm to be Image and in my mind it's never gonna change), and the Ninja Scroll book is really good.

As a huge fan of Cerebus, I take offense at you defacing Dave's last name!

It's just Sim, you wouldn't believe how many people I've seen do that over the years, I'm sure Dave is pretty used to it by now.

Yeah, that was my mistake. I only just recently picked up some Cerebus trades and they are still in my "to read" pile.

That issue and the one Neil Gaiman wrote are the only issues of Spawn that I can recall enjoying. After all these years, I don't remember too much about them other than the fact that I enjoyed them at the time.

I think the other two were by Frank Miller and Alan Moore, did you read those two, as well?

Oh I agree, but Image really occurred when I was like 12-13, and I honestly wasn't fully into reading comics for literary quality at this time (I had many of the literary classics behind me at this time - different meals for different hungers) and without question I was drawn into by the semi-anti establishment tone of Image.

To be completely honest when I read a comic now, I'm completely oblivious to the art the first time around reading it (reading it like a novel) and usually don't digest the art at all until a later read.
I still read some Image books, like Shadow Hawk and anything with Badrock in it. Badrock is one bad@$$ dude.
