Decided on a new way to store my comics...
...I got a "Sterilite 45 Gal." container and found that 3 short boxes, or 2 long boxes fit in them nicely. Im not sure about stacking as the lid is not to strong, and (especially with 2 long boxes) the container is very heavy. But i wanted to put my comics in something that would protect them incase of a small house flood or a ceiling water pipe break. And there is still room to put other things in there. :

They are about $12 at walmart. (i'll only have to get about 3 more
) And they've got wheels on one side of the bottom.

Its safety first really. I have a whole bunch of comics in Australia still and they're in my mum's garage. There's been water leakages there before, do I know if my comics are ok or not? No.Rufusharley wrote:Yeah... maybe if i went to a store that specalized in containers i could find something that fits a little better. But i think this will do the job for me.cobra_commander wrote:They look a bit funny but you'll have the last laugh if there is a water leakage

that's definitely a great idea for water... I'm not overly concerned with water coming down on my books, but potentially flooding and coming up. I have all the boxes stored on rolling metal shelves that are six inches off the ground tho. Should help in case of small floods.
If I ever end up having to do a basement store thing, I'm definitely remembering this idea.

It will provide some protection. If the level of the flood waters go above the top of the container your comics will be gone. If you can store them high up or on the 2nd floor that would be best. I would never recommend putting comics in a basement. Basements can be damp areas and could attract mold. You don't want any mold on your comics.

I blame all comics haters for global warming, and in turn the increased risk of floods destroying fans collections across the world. *SQUEE*.
Cool idea. High up on a shelf dude, and watch your back. No injuries!

That box on the right looks like a few of the long boxes I have that I've probably had for 15-20 years. Boy, they get nasty after a while. Especially because in my parents' house they have wood heat, so that really helped to turn everything nice and yellow.

yep, that's my origional long box i've had since the early 90's. I had it taped up for a long time. When my first apartment was broken into i discovered that the crooks pulled one corner up, ripping the tape and bending the lid, but i guess they weren't out for comics that day. The thievin' b@st@rds.

That's why you need acid free boxes. More expensive in the beginning but worth it in the long run. While I haven't had them for 20 years, I can vouch for having them for about 10 years. I even had them stored for a few years in 120 degree Arizona heat and no discoloration of the boxes.Brother J wrote:That box on the right looks like a few of the long boxes I have that I've probably had for 15-20 years. For CGC comics, I've seen Rubbermaid and Tupperware containers used before. Never thought about putting boxes inside them before though.
Speaking of storage options, this is by far the best setup I've seen before:

[Not a plug as much as giving credit where it's due]I sent a message to the owner, toystime4got, asking where he got them, and he said he had them specially built and is in the process of having them copyrighted. I hope one day they'll be available to purchase. He said his cabinets pictured hold about 160 long boxes.

I saw a similar set up in a store in Toronto... I want to say Silver Snail but I can't remember... they have a mural on the face of the building with a bunch of characters (Spectre is one of characters).
The back issues were set up the exact same way... not made with wood, but similar pull drawers...
