A calling for item donations...
ok fellas, the CF fund raiser is not really going to kick in for a few months yet but I am going to try something different this year and auctions a few items a month to spread it out a bit and not hit everyone SO hard in the wallet reason by spreading it out. Not HUGE auctions but something here and there to get our momentum up to combat speed by the time the fund raiser kicks into full gear.
So, I am asking that if anyone has any items (Valiant, Marvel, books, statues, cards, naked pictures of Martha Stuart... no wait, cancel the pictures, or anything that you feel would be cool to auction off, please feel free to send it off to me and I will slowly fit it into the minimal auction schedule or save it until things get into full swing. Bottom line, I need items to auction off (I have a few now but need more)... I will even pay the shipping if you so desire but I am needing items to auction off for the 2007 Cystic Fibrosis Fund Raiser... speaking of which, does anyone have any ideas for a better NAME for this ? I've been fumbling around with a name for it and actually what I have here is not bad but I was wondering if we could jazz it up a bit ? Ideas or keep it the same ?
A little sneak peek for you guys from the CF VfVSS project this year (which is already in motion) is this image that will be going on the COAs (after a bit of photoshopping to get rid of the background as we have done every year):

I felt that this image is a bit different from the others that have been used in the past. The pic of Alyssa here shows her truly happy. It was taken on Christmas morning. The others pics in the past have been great (IMO) but I know for a fact that at THIS very moment in the photo she was really happy. Why am I doing this ? Well, I want you guys to know that Alyssa is HAPPY, this is not a daily fight for life or something that keeps her down all the time. Some of the board members have even had an opportunity to speak with Alyssa on the phone (and have heard her recite off a whole slew of superhero secret identities, cool kid tricks) but people, I want folks to know that she is a happy child and this photo just shows that. It shows that with the donations that are donated every year, it DOES go to cure research which in turn enhances 'quality of life' for CF kids and I think is very evident in Alyssa. The medications and chest therapys that we give her EVERY day, MANY times a day makes for a healthier child and while Alyssa has the symptoms (which we fight every day), I dont think that they are as bad as they COULD be... it COULD be worse if there were not people who donate money/items EVERY year to make sure that we are taking steps TOWARDS finding a cure for this fatal childrens disease. People like YOU GUYS that make this fund raiser such a success every year. Last year WE raised over $31,000... I want US (as in all of us on this board, as in ALL OF YOU are members of Team Alyssa) to beat that number this year. We already have a $14,000+ headstart, I got a $100 donation from a boardmember via check yesterday (made out to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation) and our Team Alyssa website will be up and running very soon as well. So we are already movin' and groovin' but I bet we can beat the amount that WE put together last year... and it all starts now. So, send items if you can... this years battle has begun.
PM me, email me or call me if you need my address or have questions.
See that photo of the little girl above ? That is just one of the THOUSANDS of kids that you help with your donations and the research that happens in finding a cure for CF is also a domino effect for OTHER diseases. It happens that way, we find a cure for CF and it usually leads to finding cures for OTHER diseases... that is the way it works when you look at it geneticly. Cystic Fibrosis is the #1 genetic killer of children in the United States... one day CF will NOT stand for Cystic Fibrosis, it will stand for Cure Found.
The battle has begun.

I will certainly dig through my Valiant goods and provide some stuff for your auctions Chris. I'll give you a heads up once I pull things together. I think we have a special opportunity to raise some serious cash this year, especially with all of the new guys who've joined the boards.
Again, Alyssa is sooooo beautiful!!! My family sends our best.

We got your back on this Chris. I don't think a lack of responses equals a lack of support or interest. Start things off as planned and we'll come through. I would also place a thread in the general discussion area to let people know to check out the charity section.Knightt wrote:41 views, one response ? Is it a hard VALIANT season ? Maybe I should do this at a later date or something ? Maybe not at all ? Was it a bad idea to post this ?

I still have money in my PP account, just waiting for Knightt to open up the website this year, as I have a donation to make for a certain something sent to me by a certain other someone.
Do you know how difficult it is to have money in there and NOT spend it?

Some people spend their whole lives believing in fairy tales, usually because they don't want to give up the fabulous prizes.
BUMP...
Still needing donations of auction items gentlemen. I have gotten a few hits but to date I do not have anything that would last past two weeks worth of auctions.
If this will be a short year, then dems da breaks but I just wanted to bump this again.
THANKS to all of you guys that have donated auctions items so far.

Well mostly high dollar (guide wise Valiant stuff) but it has ranged from statues to cards, to other kinds of comic books. Actually many times it is people being very kind and donating high dollar items that could really boost donations for the items themselves and is then sent diretly to the CFF where the money goes to cure research ($.90 cents of every dollar is used for cure research).schi0249 wrote:Being kind of new, what kind of stuff are you looking for? I really don't have any Valiant stuff to get rid of. Just curious what kind of stuff you've gotten in the past.
Like I said, statues, CGCed books, last year I got in an entire run of Neal Adams Green Lantern/Green Arrow, I mean you name it...
