No, you just need to explain enough so that what you're saying makes sense. "Ah HA" meant nothing in the context you gave, without further information. Who was disputing that Marvel "overprinted" this book....? Did anyone on these boards suggest this book was printed only "to order"?stone384 wrote:Ah Ha as in there is now proof that Marvel overprinted this books. Actual word from a Marvel exec. that there are more copies on the way. Really Zeph do I have to explain everything to you? *ducks*![]()

The super-secret one that was just VK and MotA. I read about it... in the Bible.
Or... maybe it was Vogue.

Of all the coverage this got, I wonder if any of the reporters asked if cap had died before?

for once, i think i have to agree with zeph on this one.ZephyrWasHOT!! wrote:Ok. This perfectly demonstrates the total head up their *SQUEE* approach publishers have towards comic publishing.
For the first time in maybe 15 years, I decided to hunt these down....within hours of shops opening on the day of release.
I went to four shops.....all sold out.
I ended up with a F/VF copy.
One copy.
I paid FULL PRICE for a F/VF copy.
Here I was, with money to PAY....and none of the shops had them.
Those shops LOST MONEY because they didn't have any...they didn't have any because the stupid publisher didn't TELL THEM what it was.
As a result, idiot flippers who had no business buying comics were waiting for stores to open, so they could gouge collectors, and as a result, they were all sold out.
WITHIN HOURS OF OPENING ON THE DAY OF RELEASE.
WHAT'S WRONG WITH THIS PICTURE?????
Stupidity.
Total stupidity.
we received an email from marvel saying "order extra captain america #25, something big happens!" but of course we thought nothing of it, because we get an email like that EVERY WEEK about some book from some publisher.
we ordered 20 extra copies just to be "safe" (and they were gone by noon), when we would have ordered about 200 extra had we known. we had calls all day, people coming in, NONE of which i GUARENTEE will ever set foot or dial our number again. so while i would have been happy to sell them a copy and make my $2.20 profit, i'm almost happy that they didn't get the satisfaction of buying into the hype...

i'm pretty brubaker knew this coming in. i've heard he has the next two years plotted out, and the only way marvel will take this book from his is, and i quote: "from my cold dead hands"400yrs wrote:Yeah. It sucks that this Civil War thing is screwing up Brubaker's run on Cap. Cap has been excellent and has never been written better than by Brubaker. I'm sure the series will continue to be good, but I wish it was uninterrupted Cap stories, not some crap brought on by a Publisher-wide event.depluto wrote:I just picked up a copy, and got an extra one for the office. It's well written like all the recent Cap stuff. Hard to tell where they are going, but Brubaker and Epting are a fantastic team.
Anyone know what they are doing with the series now? Is Bucky taking over? That would be lame and a disservice to Brubaker's run (not that Bucky is bad. His character is excellent as well). I guess Cap will be Ronin or Echo or whatever in Avengers shortly. It's *SQUEE* to screw up Brubaker's run like this.

the thing about that is IT TOTALLY HOSES OVER RETAILERS WHO USE DIAMOND'S ORDERING SYSTEM PROPERLY!!!!greg wrote:Nice, considering this.
when a book goes out of stock through diamond, ESPECIALLY a marvel book, there is NO WAY it's ever coming back in stock. so there is no point on back ordering it. this is the first book in the TWO YEARS that i've done any reorder that this has happened.
the worst part is, we received an email about the overstock at about 4pm this past thursday, which does us NO GOOD since the book had to have been back ordered by NOON for a chance to get orders filled, but there's no point in back ordering something that's never coming back in stock, so why would we have done that in the first place?

thanks for the free plug...TWICEKnightt wrote:Geez, now I kinda feel bad about selling the book(s) that I had. I did not have any knowledge of this stash of books, if so I would have just kept them as I LOVE the Civil War: The Initiative with IM holding Cap's shield. I will go back to my LCS and still get copies... just because they look good. I get my comics through daydreams but Cap is not on my pull list but upon hearing the 'news' I went down to my LCS (whom I have a semi decent relationship with) and asked if he would save me one or two. The guy only ordered 15 copies as he orders as per request of his customers. So, he actually went over a couple copies, he took care of his regular subscribers and a couple went up on the shelf. But this guy has really changed with the variants. It USED to be that he would get the books in, get a variant and only sell them for cover (that I never took advantage of with the exception of my Ultimate Iron Man books because I loved the sketch variants and am a decent enough Iron Man fan). But NOW with the craze, depending on the ratio (1/20, 1/75 1/1) he charges MORE with the rarer copies being more... so right off the shelf, a more limited book would be $15. And he would brag and brag, 'hey I am all for the comic collector, that is why I only charge cover even for the variants' now to get this, making money (WHICH HE IS SUPPOSED TO DO because he is in business but I just remember the 'here for the comic collector speil' and laugh).
The LCS actually SUCKS and that is why I go with daydreams. The LCS owner asked me once on how did I think that he could improve upon the store... I told him straight up, "Get rid of the f@cking card games, promote your comics and GIVE A DISCOUNT TO REGULAR PULL LIST MEMBERS." He gives NO discount off cover and he comes back with 'but I have the buy two get the third one free off the back issue racks'. Which I said was BS because that just makes me wait to buy issues, wait three months buy two get one free PROVIDING that you still have a third issue left on the rack. He just didnt get it and still thought that he was providing a service to his regular customers.
But hey, it is a business... I know he is there trying to make money. But if it was me, I would be providing my regular customers some kind of benefit for shopping with me every month. He has NO competition in this town so he can do as he wishes and everyone is just happy to have comics.

I DID get a Cap #25 WWLA variant. It was, of course, THE book of the con. Yay me!

Having read the issues and Initiative, I do not thing Cap is dead. Does anyone remember Death of Superman. Wasn't DC vocal about Supes being dead for good? I don't remember as I didn't read DC books. (I just remember the media coverage.) Having read the following issues, it is clear they never planned to kill him for good. Plus, if Wanda still has her powers, who;s to say this isn't some alternate reality still. When he returns, it will be an easy retcon.

That was their out. They knew from the get go that there'd be a 3 month hiatus/suspension of the titles, and that would get everything thinking it was a done deal....but it wasn't.
What is WAS, however, was a brilliant marketing plan.
