I was thinking about this and thought I would ask the board.
Closest not only in quality but also style and tone. This is a tough one, looking forward to your input.

Have not read New Universe (yet) but Shooter was fresh off from Valiant when he started up Defiant and I saw 'certain' aspects of Valiant within the Defiant titles except in Defiant he was going in a 'sci-fi' direction that I felt he 'may' have eluded to or went into if he had been at Valiant longer than he was.
I have to give NU a try first before I make my final decision but right now I would say Defiant. The only exception was that IMO the art in Defiant was not HARDLY as nice as in Valiant. In that regard I found myself very disappointed.
Heck, I dont even KNOW what Broadway was.

I also voted Broadway, though I admit I never read Marvel New Universe. But Star Seed felt very much like Harbinger, and Knights on Broadway I thought was a very cool concept that reminded me of the Geomancer and the pre-Unity feel, and I deeply regretted seeing it last only three issues. Fatale would have been a cool female superhero, something Valiant desperately needed. I think those three titles especially would have enhanced and strengthened the Valiant universe, and fit right in. The others not as much. I also think Warriors of Plasm and Dark Dominion from Defiant were very cool.

I wouldnt say that they had 'great' stories. Warriors of Plasm went up to 13 issues and THEN it finally started to have some potential but in between it was just 'wierd'. Now once the events that occured in the final issue, I think THEN we would have been in for one helluva ride. Dark Dominion, I think had some potential but left me not really satisfied with what was going on.Daniel Jackson wrote:Defiant had some great stories, Broadway was OK, but was so short lived it's hard to say much about it
The thing with Defiant was that I didnt get that 'these guys have been around forever' feeling that I got from Valiant. Not that I didnt like it, I mean hell Jim Shooter was involved. The art failed for me, much of it looked incomplete or to the point where a young child had drawn it. Valiant had everything from the very begining. If you go back and read the first issues of Valiant, it seemed as if these guys had been there forever and you just had happened to pick up the story. Now yes, dont beat me up because most of the books were pretty much origin issues but still it felt like the Valiant world had beeen there forever... Defiant felt totally made up.
Broadway.... eh, there is just not enough material for me to make a solid conclusion. I wouldnt even say that I was a 'Broadway Fan', but just a collector. I've read them but just couldnt get pumped up about it. I thought Knights of Broadway had some potential... I should pull Fatale out as I have not even read it yet. And to think that Fatale was created as a spoof of all the chicks in comics those days (and then it turns out to probably the more favorite titles of the company... this is second hand news from someone who worked there)

Defiant was a good read as well but I never got a VALIANT feel from it.

I just loaded up on a huge lot of books at $.25 cents a piece (New Universe). Honestly, the recent NewUniversal got my interest up. So here is ANOTHER Dead Universe for me to colle.... hold up. With NewUniversal is New Universe really a 'Dead Universe' now ? You better wait until it dies again just to make sure.Knightt wrote:I just loaded up on a huge lot of books at $.25 cents a piece (New Universe). Honestly, the recent NewUniversal got my interest up. I have read some New Universe stuff but honestly I just could never really get into it. I voted Defiant above but that was before I read that he was looking for what universe felt the most liek Valiant. Personally, I think none.
In my opinion, Valiant should have been the third big universe that should have made it (after Marvel and DC). But as usual, a bunch of greedy pricks screwed it up.
Although, it wasn't on the list I liked the 2099 universe. It was definitely cool for a while but I guess it was not orginal enough to sustain itself.

OK, I picked up the first 3 issues of Marvels New Universal yesterday and I'm not really sure what to make of it yet. Is it just me or do the artists go out of there way to make characters look like famous actors? So far I've seen Nicole Kidman, Gene Hackman, Johnny Depp and James Cromwell. Anyone else notice this?
Yeah, I noticed that. I just shrugged it off and am waiting for MY turn to show up in a book. I think I'll be waiting for a while. I am totally diggin' these books. So much that I picked up a slew of New Universe books and they arrived in the mail today. Hell, I dont even know what I have yet but it is a VERY nice start to my newest Dead Universe... oh yeah and quite a few 2099 titles.

I even picked out the storage containers are Staples that I want to use. They are black and grey interlocking drawers. VERY sturdy and stackagle. My only beef is that I will have to store the books on their spines. Does anyone think that this will be a problem ?
