The people at the shop on park are super nice, If you get there again just start rooting around, they don't mind...I think he's still looking for a Nexus #3 with the record in it for me, should stop and see him...I pretty much cleaned them out of worthwhile valiants though...the last time I stopped at Westfield and mentioned valiants the guy snorted (yes, snorted at me) and told me to try the 1/2 price books in the next mall over...even though I know they carry some on their online store...Brother J wrote:yes, it was. How the heck did you find anything in there? I looked around and saw some comic boxes in what looked like a back room, but it didn't appear whatever back issues they had were available to be looked at so I didn't bother them. They had more underground type comics there than they had Marvels and DC's, it seemed like, which isn't a bad thing, but is pretty unusual. They had some early issues of Liberty Meadows which were first prints at cover price so I picked those up and that was about it.Hey...was the second floor shop on Park???...I picked up 2 vvss mag 25's and some pre-unity solars at a shop on park last may..
The Pred vs. Magnus trade was at Westfield Comics on a spinner rack of bookshelf format books and smaller trades, they were partly in alphabetical order so I was shocked when I saw it next to another Predator trade. I didn't do a lot of rooting through their other back issues, I didn't care for the little boxes they kept their backstock in. My wife found 10 or so beat up copies of Unity #0 Blue in their 25 cent boxes but I passed on those. I was told by the people at the show that Capital Comics was closed on Sunday, so I didn't try to go there. They weren't happy with the guy from Capital Comics because he refused to pass out flyers for the show.
Why waste time learning, when ignorance is instantaneous?

Just came in the mail today and thank goodness it actually is MINT 9.8.
Out of my 23, this is the nicest copy. Hopefully CGC will agree come January!

I hate to brag about this one cause I'm just so freaking thilled to get these so easily. This is right up there with my Voyeur set for me.
FYI, I paid $100.
By the way, I did give the seller instructions on how to end the auction within the rules, but she seems to have declided not to do so.

After almost a year of trying to buy a Harbinger #1 for 10.00 or less
I have finally succeeded
I went to my LCS for my new comics from the last 2 weeks and was looking in the back issue bin when I found it. 2 copies NM at 1.00 each. The owner said I have more of that kind of stuff that came in if you want it? Sold me a small box(135 comics) for 10.00, so for 12.00 total for back issues I got:
2 Harby #1
1 Harby #2
1 Harby #4
3 Solar #1
1 solar #2
3 Magnus #2
1 magnus #5
2 Magnus #12
1 X-O #1
1 X-O #2
1 Shadowman #1
5 Shadowman #3
Plus a bunch of MCPresents, X-Men, Avengers, Superman, Batman all from 1991 and 1992 all comics are in NM condition.
The only catch is I had to buy the box w/o looking in it
But I took the gamble, how could you go wrong with 135 comics for 10.00
He said he just found this box of overstock and wanted to move it out asap.
I tink I just landed a great deal what do you all think?

Holy CRAP! I don't know that I could have taken that deal...well...ok, MAYBE for 10 cents each (yes, I'm rounding), MAYBE...but you could STILL get burned!comicguy wrote:

Imagine...135 copies of Adventures of Superman #500.
Ugh!
Good grab...! I have had terrible luck in the past with Magnus #0. I think out of the 5 issues I bought off of eBay, only 1 would have passed for NM. Does'nt make sense, since this is one of those issues that you think people would take care of. Kind of like the Harbie Pinks.soundoftheuniverse wrote:http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... Went to the Shrine today...
Picked up Superman Annual (1960) #1-8, in Fine-ish condition each...80 Page Giant #1, also Fine...Superman #78 in about VG....and Strange Tales Annual #1....
For $215.
No Valiants, though, unless you count the guy selling 1993 books for $2 each....but, for me, $1. ROFL!!!

Just got a Quantum & Woody Magnum Force tpb for cover, $7.95!
Sorry about that, almost! I also got a Deadside 2 and 3 and Shadowman vol3 5. Nice guy behind the counter pulled the trade for me after I asked about any.

What the heck!? I asked the guy about the Valiants / Acclaim stuff and he told me the only Valiants he had were in the 50 cent bins. I went through those bins and there were all post unity stuff that no one wants. Where did you pull those Deadside and Shadowman? I didn't bother checking those back issue bins in the back. It looks like a total chaotic mess back there and all the books are all crammed in those boxes with no backing board.

Knight's got it, that's exactly where I found them, crammed into those dusty crap back issue boxes in the back. BUT, the Deadsides and the Shadowman LOOK like they've been through a war, I'd have to grade all three issues out about Fine/Very Fine, that's it. Still, even seeing their condition while I was in the store, I just couldn't leave them there. These issues were no great bargain at $2.75 each! (of course the Q&W trade is nice NM- with minimal shelf wear bottom edge and a 1/8" non-color breaking crease upper right corner front cover, so that WAS a good deal).Knightt_333 wrote:THAT is where you find them.... you need to look EVERYWHERE, looking for that 'diamond in the rough'.Escaflown4 wrote:What the heck!? And, if I had left the others, I wouldn't have waited for the guy to come out of the back and asked him about the trade, so it all worked out I guess.

Well I did tried to avoid buying any comics from St. Mark's. Did you notice those shelves they put the new comics in? They are so horribly designed that every book put in there gets damaged. Especially their back issue bins. Each box is so crammed that you got random books sticking out. The worst part is none of them has any backboard protection. I mean what are those guys thinking. I usually just go in and check out what got released and leave. Their books are not worth buying in those condition.

I visited a LCS last week. He had every Valiant in his bargin bin with a huge 31 cents sticker on them. I don't know what they are thinking sometimes.Knightt_333 wrote:You think THATS bad, I travel an hour to go to a comic shop up in Tucson and I found a boat load of old Rai, Shadowman, Solar and Magnus issues... for TEN CENTS. Get them home and they have the shops STAMP on the inside first page. WTF were these guys THINKING ? I mean I had a Rai #2-6 but all ruined due to the stamp. ALL of his ten cent bin book have the stamp on them. What a waste...
I have a Qualified NM Magnus #0 from the "It's not my fault it's bent in half" collection.

The fact that someone would stamp any comic with anything in the last 30 years is beyond *SQUEE*. "Let's see, this comic could be worth money in the future to another generation of collectors with fond memories of the company but right now it's worth only cover price... I know! I'll TRIPLE STAMP IT! HURRAY!"

This particular store in Tucson used to be really good. They had two locations, one was definately the better of the two. The manager of the better store, opened his own store. I contacted him when I was going to be back in Tucson and he said he had some valiants in his bins but I never had a chance to get down there. You might want to try it next time your in town, I think it's called "Charlies Comics" and is on the east side of town.

I've been told that the insert from Previews does not have a cardstock coverThe Spider wrote:Recently, I paid just a dollar for a copy of the August 1996 Previews with that Valiant Heroes insert still in it.
or the staples (on the spine) that the "stand-alone" version has.
Can you confirm that it's not a "stand-alone" version in Previews?

I'll check when I get home.. I don't actually recall if the stand-alone one has a cardstock cover. Okay, just got the catalog out. The pages look like they're glued to the inside spine of the catalog, and there's no staples that I can see there. And it's not cardstock.
Now for my question--does anybody know if the "Starting Over" comic (the August 1996 one had VH2 X-O and Magnus) featured in the catalog was reprinted anywhere else?
