Ninjak Color artwork - Quesada/Palmiotti first Ninjak piece
I'm selling this for $350 +shipping. It is the color art of what Quesada did for the many published ads hyping Ninjak before it was published. This appeared in full page ads in most comics magazines and in many Valiant comics. The 1st huge scan may take a litle bit to load up but is worth seeing. It comes in the purple matte/frame shown.

Since it is such a beautiful piece of classic early Quesada, that might make the difference for someone in this case.cobra_commander wrote:The colour art is really nice and I've been told that VALIANT colours do fetch a pretty good price...higher than other companies since the style is a bit more unique....but anybody think $350 is a bit pricey for some colours on a stat?

You could get some REALLY nice original pencil/ inks for that price...REALLY nice...Squirrel wrote:I have to pipe in, I too thought $350 is a bit for the color sheet. I have a few color sheets (nothing this nice), but $350, OUCH! But hey, the actual price is what someone is willing to pay....I'd love to buy it, but not at $350

I'll try to give a general answer.Rufusharley wrote:I am in no way questioning the integrity of the seller, but how does one know that this is really the original color? Honest question here folks.
Provenance is the only sure way, but that's almost impossible. Especially for color art where normal art return was not part of the artists' contract.
So one has to judge the art itself and make a game of odds. First thing to check is of course that it is something painted and not a copy. That's so fundamental that we can skip it.
So it comes down to comparing the original to what is printed. As Valiant prnted straight from the color originals that should be easy. Right? Wrong. First of all the colors don't reproduce exactly. The original always is more vivid, but for different colors it can be more or less of a difference.
Also, there could still be some tweaking after the original had been scanned. I've seen one case where an ink line forgotten on both th eink and color originals does exist in printed form.
And if the original has been exposed to even the slightest bit of sunshine it will have faded. Especially the blue colors.
So one has to look for areas that are clearly painted in a different way. Like if a bit of paint has bled in the printed version, but not on the original you are checking, or if a shade falls in a completely different way.
Take Magnus 0 and card 1 of the Valiant Era for example. The artist who repainted the card made a wonderful job of emulating the comic. Very skillful. But there are some tell-tale differences.
That the shading on the buckle is darker on the card means nothing. But that the color of the tunic goes into Magnus right arm on the comic, but not on the card, that is a very strong indication that there has been two different originals.
In the end it comes down to experience. This seller btw has that experience. But it is always up to the buyer to estimate what he is buying.

One more question. What kind of 'paint' is used in origional colors? The medium..like oil, enamel, water color, marker. Or is a combination of mediums used? I always wondered how colors were done.
Is this already in the 'Art' section? Maybe i should check there.
Doc Martin's watercolors was the main kind of paint used.

Since I'll be owing $1,500 in Fed/State taxes this year instead of getting back the same amount, I will not be able to purchase this beautiful piece of art.
If it's still around in a six months or a year and I get a substantial raise or the new job I hope I get, I'll revisit purchasing the Ninjak color promo.
