I went into an LCS for a book, took it up to the counter and the dude checked Ebay just like in your guy did and wanted to charge that Ebay price but ALSO figured in the shipping charge into his selling price.KO2003 wrote:I'll do you one better. A LCS owner in my area doesn't use Wizard. He prices everything by checking Ebay's latest auction for the particular issue you are interested in buying.
He even does this for weekly new issues. I saw him pull a stack of Action Comics #812 off the shelf and sell them for $12 bucks a piece the day they came out.
Now I am a fan of the Capitalist society that we live in. If you own something then you have the right to sell it for whatever you want. I just exercise my right to buy from someone else who sells it cheaper. God Bless America:x
Will this evil ever cease ?!?!?

i really don't understand these guys...if they know that valiant is gettnig hot again...why not price the books at the new hot prices??? the only place they are invariably "hot" is on e-bay so again-why not list them?
i've got a shop where the guy is always telling me how much valiant and rare acclaims are selling for on e-bay-while i'm paying $1 a book for rare valiants and acclaims...
i appaud him for not checking e-bay and trying to stick it to me (it wouldn't-i'm teflon!!!) but why not list them???
he's done half of the homework already....should i apply for a job there?

Which is ANOTHER reason why it's illegal to 'change prices' when they're already marked.myron wrote:because most are too damn lazy to go through their bins and see exactly what they have in there...they want people like us to do their filing for them :x
Take it a step further, gents...write a letter to your local BBB, and CC it to the store.
May not do anything....but, more likely, may give the store owner something to think about.
Couple of hints to help: before spending 2 hours comic bin diving, pull out a coupla books (if they're not priced) and ask how much they are. If the guy pulls out the song and dance, you'll know it's not worth wasting your time further.
If you DO spend time diving for comics....and the guy (it's ALWAYS a guy) jacks you on the books...say 'Hold on, I want to get some more!'...then grab a HUGE stack, mix it ALL up...and then leave it all on the counter and walk out. If he stops you, say 'oh....well, I realized I didn't want the books after all, especially since you jacked up the prices on me. But thanks for letting me look through your books!'
They want to play games...they get it back.

Shops that do that garbage are doing nothing but running good customers away. Granted, I have found such good deals in some shops that I almost feel guilty (ALMOST!), but that doesn't mean that some shops can try to rip me off either. Take my original post about the Harbinger # 1 for example. The book wasn't priced, and he STILL wanted me to "make an offer" on the stupid thing. It's like saying to the customer,
"Ok, this is my shop, and everything in here is for sale...but these 10 boxes here is the best stuff in the store. I didn't price any of it, because I wanted to make 100% or more of guide on them. Oh yeah, and after you pick it out, I don't HAVE to sell it to you."
Not to mention this. When the shop looks at BUYING something, they pick up the OVERSTREET. When they want to SELL something, they either look at WIZARD or refer to EBAY, which sucks. Why not close down the whole store and sell direct to EBAY then? At this rate, you'll run off all your good customers with anyway with this "price-by-the-seat-of-my-Wizard" Modus Operandi some stores have now. Give me a break!!!
