Yeah right, rare gold.

He even shows the back. Rolling Eyes

Yeah, taking a picture of those backerboards is critical.....

I am just getting HAMMERED with overgraded auctions lately....absolutely HAMMERED...

Silver Sable 1-15, 31-35 lot, graded NM/M, with light creases, color breaking spine stress, mangled covers, stains...stains! F/VF avg.

Amazing Spiderman #23 graded Fine- with an ENTIRELY RECONSTRUCTED SPINE, and PAINT to "match" existing! It also has extensive moisture damage waviness, to the point the cover is a bit stiff.

Teen Titans #21 graded VF with the centerfold detached, and the bottom staple detached from four of the eight wraps.

Dardevil lot of 30 graded NM/M with only 7 actually being NM/M...the rest with spine rolls, stains, creases, dents, etc...your typical VG to Fine lot.

Journey Into Mystery #76 graded VG with two spine tears that are 1" and 1/2" respectively, which travel through the entire book, plus lots of wear that has reduced the paper to the "toilet paper" consistency (and you all know what I mean.....)

World's Finest #126 graded VG+ with 6 small pieces out of the spine.

Cerebus #1 that was color touched over the entire spine, top to bottom, back and front, with a small piece added along the top edge (no resto mentioned.)

Adventure Comics #309 graded Fine with about 30-40 water droplets, the biggest being about the size of a dime, plus other wear.

Hellboy Seed of Destruction 1-4 graded NM/M, with bad spine damage, and light creasing typical of the F/VF grade.

Captain America #100 graded VG/F, with the entire bottom of the book, into the edge 1.5", having taken a bath at some point...literally dipped in water.

Yeesh.

There ARE some bright spots, which I will share in the appropriate areas, but man, can I get some commiseration from some a yous?

Wow. That's some bad luck you're having with sellers.

Have you delt with any of these sellers in the past?

Some yes, some no. All have stellar feedback.

The Cerebus guy (swanson840, I think) accepted the book back with no questions asked, refunded shipping both ways, and thanked me for taking care of the book while I had it in my posession.

He hadn't seen the "restoration" (of course), so it was as much of a downer for him as it was for me. He's had that book for many years, even pestered Dave Sim to sign it for him for a long time, and even got a letter back from Dave (included in the auction) thanking him for being a fan, and of course, Dave signed it (he sent the book to Dave in Ontario!)

So, it was a real heartbreaker all the way around.

But...it was still a heavily color touched book, and one I wasn't comfortable paying $220+ for in VG (which proves I will happily pay over Guide for certain books...Guide for a VG #1 is $82. :))

One of the accounts seems legit. The two others are weird, obviously not created for this auction. I would not have assumed the worst, but I would have hesitated a bit. In the end it was a rather feeble shilling if it was any at all.

Like you I would also have hesitated due to the feedback history.

The sellers feedback comments would probably stop me from bidding on his stuff too. It appears that as long as everything goes smooth he looks like a good guy, but when someone has a question or a complaint he comes off looking like a jerk.

I bid on that, and I say you got a good deal. It's graded so as long as he doesn't screw up the s/h you should be fine.

Yeah, I'm always wary of people like that. They go from friendly to jerk at the drop of a hat when something goes wrong. Unless you really need that item, it's often best to just move along.

Sellers like that guy need to realize that those types of comments speak volumes. The negs don't bother me nearly as much as how the seller deals with them.
