That's why I love this site, info gets posted.svair wrote:Just a little bit of information...ManofTheAtom wrote:Is it really that hard to keep DC, Marvel, and VALIANT separate from each other?
Why the hell do they all have to do things the same way?
When Shooter left VALIANT his office had to be tidy'd up a bit...
Behind his desk was found a piece of paper that had the following
VALIANT .......DC ..................Marvel
Solar ........... Superman
X-O Manowar.........................Iron Man
I just remember these entries being told to me...but, there was an entry for every character, in Shooter's handwriting....
The paper has since been missplaced, but we are still looking for it...
also, one day Layton came out of his office and said..."DC has Aquaman, Marvel has Namor, ....We need an underwater guy!"...and he went back into his office.
just fyi....

Then why does it show up my work computer fine?D-Lite wrote:Nope, not a Mac/PC thing. My Macs aren't showing it either.Todd Luck wrote:Funny, now that I'm home I'm getting the same thing. Could it be a Mac/PC thing? I'm on a Mac at work where I scanned and saved the image and it worked fine when I viewed it there. Now that I'm at home I'm seeing the red x.
I'll rescan it in at home or resave it when I get time but most of you should now what the commercial looks like anyway. It was very widely published. Just open any VH-1 comic published three or four monthes after Chaos Effect (cover date Febuary and March 1995). I got it out of Shadowman 33 (it's also in 34).
I just reloaded it. Let me know if you guys can see it. If not I'll just have to rescan it at home on Thursday.

I just wish I knew how I fixed it.
So this post should make more since now...
Just in case anyone actually cares. Here's the actual ad that the "unpublished" image appeared in (I'm sorry it's slightly cropped). Again it's really doubtful that image was drawn for a yearbook. More likely it was the cover for the trade it's advertising or just promotional art like the image used for "The Harbinger Wars" (since it's mainly copied from BWS's art, I'm hoping it's the later).

That image was published in an ad just before Birthquake for the Timewalker trade (never published) reprinting Ivar's A&A appearances and such, hence why most of those images are from A&A 11. Also on the ad was a plug for The Harbinger Wars plotline in Timewalker and the first Timewalker Yearbook, both of which were actually published.
I'm wondering if Layton remembers this correctly because it makes sense for that image to associated with a trade but not for a yearbook. What would the yearbook have been called? "The untold tales of Archer & Armstrong 11"?
And actually 4 out of 5 of the images in that piece are line-for-line reproductions (copies) of art from A&A 11 with body parts that had been cropped out by panel borders added to make the characters complete:
The bearded guy is taken from the panel where the ghost is walking by him (the ghost is removed)
Solar is an exact copy with his right hand added.
Ivar is a copy from a panel showing him from the waist up, so Layton added the rest of the body.
Armstong is a copy with nothing added, but his cap is moved up by a mili-inch.
Archer, I don't know, I don't think it's from that issue but it looks very familar. Could be orignal or it could be from another issue.
I'm not sure how BWS would've felt about this uncredited "homage" if it really had been used as a cover. Maybe it was really meant as a Timewalker lithograph

So I take you'd forgotten that the supposed unpublished Yearbook cover was in this ad promoting the Timewalker trade (which was cancelled) and that it featured images lifted (copied) from panels in A&A 11 (which was supposed to be in the trade)?ManofTheAtom wrote:I'm familiar with the ad you're talking about.
It mentions Ivar's past (the trade with the A&A and Magnus appearances), the present (I'm drawing a blank on that one, could be the Timewalker Yearbook), and future ("dark future" or "bleak future", some sort of future in reference to the Harbinger Wars trilogy).
I still say most likely Bob's memory is a little off here and it was probably promotional art like the Harbinger Wars image at ad's bottom (Layton probably didn't know only the top half of his image would make it into the ad)
