A SPECIAL GIFT (Part 2) to Shriner's from vf.com

Post by Byrneout »

If you remember, last year we were able to do something incredible - we were able to donate an XBox 360 plus TVB, games, etc. to Shriner's Burns Institute as part of the Toy Drive I organize every year. (For those who weren't here during that time, head HERE for more details.

This year, we are again going for the holy grail - a PS3 with games, etc. I have just received confirmation from a friend that manages a Gamestop that he is holding a reservation for a PS3 for me. Once I get the $100 deposit in to him (later today) it is guaranteed - I will receive the first PS3 that is sold from that store.

This system costs around $599 (plus tax). A very hefty price at this time of year to be sure. I want to see if we can raise this money from all of us, jsut as we did last year. I can tell you that what we do with this is so incredibly important to these children - we're giving them something in the hospital that most of them would not be able to receive from hom, and during a very dark and depressing time. I myself was hospitalized at Shriner's during the holidays, and the feeling of isolation and depression are incredible - it gives me nothing but joy to know that we cna lift that even for a few moments.

Anything you can give it incredible. If you're interested in donating, PM or email me, and I'll do everything I can to accomodate your needs on this. Last year, you suprised and amazed me as a group - this year, I want to be filled with pride again at what our little community can do.

Thank you all.

The systems hit in just a few weeks, and we're a little over the halfway point! Thank you all so VERY much for your contributions!

If I can get everything together in time, I might even set this thing up early (first week of December or so) that way the kids can start getting their playtime in on it even before Christmas hits.

Thank you all so much for making this possible!

We're in the final stretch - I'm looking to acquire the system when it arrives this Friday, and I'm still a little behind on funds to do so.

After the system itself is taken care of, then I'll put out for the games, extra controllers, and a tv/rolling cart so that the game system can be taken around to the children who are bound to their beds and unable to visit the playroom.

Thanks very much to all those who have contributed thus far - we're going to do this, and it will make the holidays so much better for this group of traumatized children!

Well, so far we've raised about $350. $100 of that has already gone to the deposit, so roughly $250 of $400 for the system itself. The rest I can handle, but the more we receive in donations the more I'll have to spend on comic books and other quality toys and items for the children in there.

Controllers will run between $35-$40, and games will run about $50. The tv will be around $100, and I can't recall how much the rolling television cart cost last year, but I *think* it may have been in the $50 range.

So, all told, we need about $600 more for everything, and then I will personally be buying the other accessories (from a UPS and a power strip to a few extra games and a controller for spare parts).

I would like to make a $$ donation for the PS3. Also, if you need or can use, I have loads of comics I could send - Spidey, Batman, Superman, and others. LMK.

Thanks, Ron

Certainly! We'll be doing our normal Toy Drive this year, but that starts a few weeks from now (typically, the week before Thanksgiving). Feel free to send those along in advance, though - and let me know if you need assistance calculating value on those for your taxes.

For the PS3, though, feel free to Paypal ric@ricbyrne.com or PM me for an address. Thank you very much for supporting BOTH of these great activities with one fell swoop!

Many people have donated to this fund so far - and I have thanked you all.

However, I want to take just a moment to send an extra thank you to Chris Scott (Knightt), who has raised enough to double our collection to date!

That said, every contribution has been extraordinarily valued, and many of you have been RATHER generous! Each and every one of you deserve a round of applause, and here it is!

Thank you ALL again for your continued support!

Playstation 3: Acquired
Rolling Cart: Acquired
3 Controllers: Acquired
PS3 Games: Marvel Ultimate Alliance and NHL 2007
Sonic The Hedgehog for PS3 comes out December 20th, and is reserved.

All I have left is to acquire a decent television set (and perhaps 2 or 3 more games, depending), and we're good to go!

Thank you all!

How much is all of that going to cost? Maybe we could start another donation thread. Whatever people can spare to get this stuff taken care of.
