Valiant resurgence
Hi,
just found this site and am glad to know that I'm not the only one out there who still enjoy's the Valiant Universe! (I even have complete sets unopened packs Valiant Universe trading cards)
At one time, Valiant comic book's were some of the most hyped and sought after titles produced but, then everything came to a halt.
My question is, what happened to cause the interest in Valiant's Universe to die out?
Also, is there a chance that we might see a resurgence of interest or, a revival of characters like XO Man-O-War?

Re: Valiant resurgence
Many dealer felt "burned" when they couldn't turn around and sell last weeks book for double or more cover price in a week. Bad writing lost many readers. And the company stopped making books.reekdog wrote: My question is, what happened to cause the interest in Valiant's Universe to die out?
Dark Horse is reprinting Gold Key Magnus & Solar.reekdog wrote: Also, is there a chance that we might see a resurgence of interest or, a revival of characters like XO Man-O-War?

As of right now, none of the Valiant titles are being produced. Valiant has been folded and Acclaim now owns all rights to the properties except Magnus, Solar and Turok. Acclaim at the moment is going through bankruptcy and have no plans whatsoever to relaunch these books.
As for the Magnus and Solar books coming out soon, they are reprints of the early Gold Key comics from what I heard.

After Valiant he created two more companies (Defiant Comics and Broadway Comics) both of which died like every other new company in the 90's. If you do a word search for "Defiant and Broadway Comics" you can find atleast one fan site (with forums) devoted to the companies.reekdog wrote:Thank's for the update.
Btw, what happened to Jim Shooter and is he still writing/drawing comics?

In 1999, Shooter was hired by Accliam (who bought Valiant) to write his characters one last time in a series called Unity 2000 but the company stopped publishing in midseries (information on the miniseries can be found in the site contents for this site).
Shooter has since moved on to work at a sci-fi company named Phobos which can be found at www.phobosweb.com Sadly he hasn't done comics since 1999.
