How can someone be a comic dealer and be so ignorant of what certain books are worth? I can see people letting Valiants slip away since they aren't listed for much in Overstreet, but Uncle Scrooge #179 BOOKS for $114 in FINE. You should definitely do well with US #179 on eBay if you're going to flip it, I sold a VG copy and got about $170 for it a few months ago.Uncle Scrooge #179 FN $1

I have no idea why the US #179 was so low either. The store must be aware of the value as I went back today and the other low print Whitmans cost the following:
Popeye #158 FN $13.50 (15th on the rarest Whitman list according to a CBM article - the US #179 is 26th on the list)
Bugs Bunny #221 VG $3.60 (21st rarest)
Tweety & Sylvester #106 VG+ $10.80 (19th rarest)
Chip 'n' Dale #68 VG- centrefold detached $7.20 (18th rarest)
Walt Disnsy's Comics & Stories #480 VG- centrefold detached $36 (22nd rarest)
As you can see, they have some priced at guide while others (e.g. US #179) are lower. Unfortunately, it looks like someone already beat me to the books as all of the others were missing. I was thinking of passing on the WDCS #480 due to the price, but since these books usually sell for over guide I decided to take a chance. Hopefully it pays off!

Cheers,
Skiw

almost every pre unity for $90
I'm new around here so no one knows me but I just HAD to show someone this auction I won:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... RK:MEWN:IT
This was a good deal, wasn't it? I was afraid I might have got hosed because the grades weren't listed, but I got them today and they were all fantastic. They were all bagged and boarded, all the coupons were there and they were all well taken care of. Harby #7 might be less than NM but the rest are perfect.
Almost every pre-unity (45 total) for $90 including shipping. I'm so excited I had to tell someone, and I can't tell my wife. So there, I did.

Oops, two of the Magnus were missing the coupons. Oh well. You gotta love auctions titled "comic lot". Especially when they don't list the numbers or titles. A couple years ago I won an auction titled "Wolverine comic lot" with some random X-Men comics, a Wolverine Mini #2, 3 and 4, and a VF Uncanny X-Men #94 all for $40. Now I search for "Valiant comics lot" all the time. It takes a long time to look through all the ones full of Turok #1's though. Oh well, it's still fun....kinda.

Remember that set of Unity Diamond tpb's on ebay last month? the one with no picture/scan and a non-responsive seller? the one that I bid on anyway and won for $129.50?
Okay, they arrived in the mail yesterday (he sent them media mail as per the listing description, but he also purchased insurance for me at no extra charge, nice of him).
You may recall that volume 1 was described as having a vertical crease running the length of the front cover. It sure does
, but it doesn't really bother me too much since it doesn't really break color on the cover. It is a major defect, however, but one I was ready for given the auction description.
Overall, I'm happy
. The volume 2 is beautiful NM and the 1 is tolerable. Considering the tiny print run of these Diamond Unity trades, I think I did fantastic with this purchase.
Who wants to see a scan of the vol.1?

Nothing like a good garage sale to turn up some gems!
Magnus 1, 3, 5-7 all with coupons
Magnus 9-12
X-O 1, 2, 6, 9
Solar 3-6, 10 (1st print)
Unity 1 two gold, one platinum
X-O retribution tpb regular edition x2
All NM and better, all bagged and boarded (except the trades).
The guy had a TON of post-unity too, I didn't take nary a one though. Guy said he used to sell at a flea market about ten years ago. These books (along with an enormous amount of sports cards and autographed sports items) were his old stock, just collecting dust in the garage.
Here's a kick: old time price tags! The Magnus 12 has a sticker on the bag that says 'book value $90, my price $70', and the Solar 10 has a yellow sticker that says '1st Eternal Warrior $53.00'!
Price tag on this bonanza? 23 x .20 = $4.60!

I got about 200 different Valiants, all commons, for 6 cents each. OK, so that's not a great deal, but I'm working on a second run the old-fashioned way.
Not Valiant-related but the sweetheart of the deal was 90 percent of an 8-year run on Uncanny X-Men, most of the first 10 of the new Daredevil and several McFarlane Spideys, all for 6 cents each, too. And about 100 other comics.
They'd all been in a warehouse for a while, so they hadn't been picked through. Good stuff.
