So...

I'm through the looking glass, dipping my toe into the icey waters that you fella's have already drowned in.

And I'm loving it.

I won this auction, and am now bidding on a Solar TPB, and I certainly owe you all an opinion.

So... let's start with Rai.

Yeah, it's pretty good isn't it? what truly impresses me is that there is so much going on, an utterly conflicted central character and actual conflict, both physical and politcal taking place with on each page.

Sci-fi comics, certainly sci-fi comics on such a grand scale, don't tend to work so well... must, must get more.

Shadowman, well, I know Shadowman the best of any Valiant character having read him from issue #9 through to the Chaos Effect and I'm a little disappointed with the origin (I had seen the 'bite' retold later on, with Darque's involvement), but it's very... well, straightforward?.

The gem of my E-bay spoils lies within the pages of the Valiant TPB and the two pater with Solar, Gilad and a whole lot of Egg-breakers. What impresses me most is that it's so complete a tale, everyone has an agenda and everyone believes they are working towards the greater good.

So that's what I've been missing.

Thank you all, and please feel free to point me towards more.

Glad to see you won that auction, if I run across anymore good tpb deals like that I'll post it for ya.

that is cool. it's like you're taking us with you on your journey. it's kinda too bad that you already read the rai tpb though-before the two magnus ones...the cool thing is that they both lead right into it and that the turmoil and conflict are going on throughout the stories. those three
( 1. steel nation 2. Invasion 3. rai tpb (what's the stories name?) are my favorite all time.

and then there's still harbinger, which if you like rai for the reasons you stated i would guess you'll like as well. not everyone is in love with harbinger though-i really dig it!

I have the Harbinger TPB (and have had it for years) and I do have a 'reasonable' grounding in a lot of what happened post Unity, but it wasn't until finding this board I begun to see exactly what i'd been missing.

So far, so good.

Ok, so I got the Solar Second Death TPB this week (collecting issues 1-4).

It is an absolutely beautiful thing.

Complex, character driven BIG sci-fi in a real world and utterly authentic setting. Awesome.

It's a crime these books aren't better collected.

I'd love a shelf full of TPB's.
