re-read Ninjak

Post by DJSpecter »

Because of all the talk here about how bad Ninjak was, I painstakingly reread the series. I confirm, it was a painstaking experience.

The first two or three issues had a peculiar flaw. They had two many words. In order to explain the the reader what was going on the pages were filled. To actually read every word was torture because once you got from one page to the next you lost any flow of the story.

The story about his lover started slow but halfway through was very good until the end.

The X-O crossover issues were interesting but, well... stupid. In order to avoid having too many words, the story and its logic had gaps.

The story about the "smart bullet." Funny. Mostly because according to more recent claims electronic devices aren't actually known to interfere with airline systems (a gameboy was used as a weapon... oops, spoiler). decent story in itself.

Chaos story, nice on the concept, this was my favorite Ninjak issue!

From there on in (until the end, there are a few interesting stories along the way) the series has a few major flaws: logic, art, flow, concept.

Ninjak bloodshot issues being the best example where all is lacking, aside from the basic plot summary.

The series ended off in a very interesting way. If it were not the last issue, I probably wouldn't have cared, but the last issue is my second favorite ninjak story, and I feel that it would have made a very satisfying first issue.

Most of the issues weren't really bad, but they were kind of see-through. Dogs of Death and White Wolf being prime examples where the idea was to introduce a threat and dispose of the threat, which is very comic-booky, and something that we'd expect to have more substance when done at Valiant.

I didn't re-read 0 and 00, although as I can recall the issues, they go very well with issue 26 and were excellent stories.

I did like the 2 issues with X-O in it. #5 & #6, I think. But that was it.

I liked what Jorge was trying to do with the book, but by then it was too late.....
Never even had a chance to finish up the story arc.
Shame , I liked Jorge's writing....

:P I didn't care for the stories at all. I bought a slew of Ninjak issues from a local comic shop's 25 cent bin. What a waste of quarters. The only issues I ended up keeping were the two X-O issues (just because I'm an X-O fan) :P .

The origin issues were well done and I would recommend re-reading those ( you get to learn how Colin becomes a lady's man), Mark Moretti did a pretty good up once joe Q left prematurely as the artist.

The only thing I like about Ninjak was Quesada's art.

Why waste time learning, when ignorance is instantaneous?
