shipping amounts
It bothers me that you are all telling me their service has slipped, hate to have to look for another place to order stuff from after about 10 years of doing business with 'em........
I am in Mississippi, so that may have been the difference in shipping to me.
Can't remember the delivery time, since they never said anything then about a 48 hour turnaround (that must be new). Sorry if ya'll didn't think it was a great deal, but here we have only a couple places to buy them locally at a cost of about $9 + tax per hundred bags and boards, so for me they were a fantastic deal!
I'm getting ready to place an order myself in the next month or so, will have to post my results of that here for comparison.
If anyone finds a better place, please post it here.
Thanks!
Jaime

Here's what I pay for 1000 Silver (always silver, otherwise you run the risk of the boards pressing up against the comic in back and leaving a dent) bags and boards: $95.
I KNOW I can get them cheaper, but no one will cough up their local sources.
It'd be GREAT to get 1000 Silver Bags and Boards for $30 or so...
but if the shipping's $60....where's the benefit?
Anyone got an LA sources they can clue me into?

Re: shipping amounts
Well I send in my order for 200 bags and 200 boards and 6 short boxes..total $26 + shipping. Well I checked my account this weekend and they had charged me for the whole amoutn of $42 which includes shipping, which I am only guess at since I ever got an email. Of course since they are shipping UPS shouldnt I be getting a tracking number or something like that...or maybe something to let me know that it has shipped.comxfan wrote:It bothers me that you are all telling me their service has slipped, hate to have to look for another place to order stuff from after about 10 years of doing business with 'em........

I think that they are going about it the wrong way. I think that they could really do a lot more business if they fixed this whole shipping thing...I like to know what the total is when I buy something...not buy it and wait to have them tell me what the shipping is. I guess I will wait to see how long things take to get here and what kinda shape everything is in and then I will post back. I was looking at buying some of their display cases but I dont know now...Think if they fixed these little problems they could have gotten 2 good reviews from me and x-o along with you and probably the next people to need bags from this board might ahve given them a try...that could be a lot of business, but now I dont know...

Well I sent them an email asking for the tracking number and I was wondering when the package will be sent. I still have not heard from them. I really wish that they had a little better customer service but it does not appear that they are that great in that department. Hell I really wouldnt mind paying a litle more for a better feeling when i deal with them. Of course I still have not gotten my order and that could change everything...

Same guy who hired Harrick is the one who squeezed out Dooley. And that's all I'm going to say about that.DawgPhan wrote:Man did you see that they dropped the hammer on us for the Harrick stuff...geez...if I ever see that guy on the street...Every school he goes to he destorys...how does he keep getting jobs?
Back OT, I'm glad you guys are posting about your expereinces here. Sounds like the big bugaboo with this place is the shipping. What about the quality of the bags?

Here's my advice on this:
Collector-Safe. Cheap and good quality. The outfit is in Ohio, but their website is out of Sarasota.
If you have a buisness ID number, call the Ohio number and deal with them directly. They will beat the prices on the website by over 10%. They only ship fed-ex ground from the factory, which is expensive.

I have yet to get my bags so I dont know. Yes I think that the big thing with these guys is customer service and shipping. I think that they already had 1 strike against them because someone posted about them a few months ago. R_D did not seem to have that great of time with these guys. I think if the order is not perfect these guys might leave a bad taste in my mouth.depluto wrote:Same guy who hired Harrick is the one who squeezed out Dooley. as for Harrick. I wish that soundoftheuniverse would drop me a PM about him. I am sure that he has all the dirt since I believed that he played for Harrick during the national title seasons. I could be wrong though. Of course after he left that program amid disgrace they were placed on probation. Tony Cole and Jim Harrick..what a couple of dirt bags...There was a place in athens that placed a huge banner outside their store right after tony Cole came out....the banner read "Tony Cole NEVER ate here!" I always thought that was funny. Also Tony Cole was in more trouble at GSU for assualting someone or something like that...what a POS....arrgghh..

I'm also looking to get a bundle of bag and boards for a relatively cheap price. I found this site through a Yahoo search.
http://www.comicsupply.com/shop/index.php
They have 500 bag and boards for 44.99 with free shipping within the U.S.
That sounds pretty good, but I am looking for feedbacks. Have anyone dealt with these guys before?

funny that you mentioned these guys cause I was just on their site looking at the clearbacks...those seem kinda neat...they sure are expenisive though. that is not that bad of a price if it includes shipping...I am dealing with hotflips.com right now and I can not say that I really that pleased with them. Someone on here has ordered from them before...How ling did your order normally take? Just curious since they will not email me back or anything...I might try calling...bags/board seem funny...they are really to heavy to cheaply ship but they are not an expensive product...seems like you might be better off driving to the store...Escaflown4 wrote:I'm also looking to get a bundle of bag and boards for a relatively cheap price. Alright I just got my order...I gotta say...DONT ORDER FROM HOTFLIPS..I wish that I had a digital camera to take pictures of what I got in the mail today...I paid $18 in shipping for 200 bags, 200 boards, and 6 short boxes...well the bags and boards were just dumped into a box with the short boxes. The short boxes are fine to me, but the bags and boards are horrible...nearly none of the boards are useable since they have been bumping around in a box all week and the bags dont even look like they will fit my comics...anyway I think that after I call these guys back for a refund I will be calling up collector safe...those guys look like a first rate operation and ckb is vouching for them...goodbye hotflips...I would say give them another chance, but R_Daneel had the same thing happen to him...bags and boards just dumped in a box...

I decided to check all my local comics shops with the prices from hotflips & shipping. I have a store that will match the shipped price which is 175 for 2000 bags & 2000 boards & 5 short boxes. So I will go with them. That works out to @ 10cents or less per bag & board. I can live with that.

I have always gone with silver age for all my books. I feel they offer more protection on the corners than moderns. Also most modern boards today are almost the exact size of a comic. So they offer no protection if the corner is bumped. You have some extra space with silver age, and can also fit trades and other oversize books in them.depluto wrote:This might be a dumb question (and it wouldn't be my first), but ...
Why Silver Age bags instead of the smaller ones for your Valiants. I've got mine in Modern Age bags, and they seem OK.

I personally look at it the other way, I don't like modern comics 'floating' around in a silver age bag and board. I get nervous about badly blunted corners because its moving around inside. I like my bag on tight!
But I know what you guys are saying about smashed corners in a tighter modern age bag. Its kind of a catch-22.
