Well, I figured out what to do. I am going to try to be a VH1 completist, yet still try to be a cheap *SQUEE*. I found some VH1 stuff in the quarter boxes today, and the X-O trade Blue Variant at half cover price.
I mean, come on. Comics for a quarter? If I can get most of VH1 this way, then why the hell not. The key is just to have self control and not get too aggressive with it.
Of course, if a relaunch occurs in the midst of my laid-back collecting, I'm sure that I'll eat those words.

19) VALIANT WILL RETURN.
It'll be a celebration of complete chaos and destruction.
It'll be a glorious time of weeping. The earth will shift on its axis.

My LCS had a few old books for .50, but they were not in good condition...
but before I moved, a LCS by me had multiple copies of of valiants in NM condition... but they were buried in the back, under tons of long boxes...(and I had to do the lifting and digging) I am going back out to my old stomping ground for my fantasy football draft, I hope I can stop by and see if he still has his back issues.
In fact, I will go and check it out.

Hopefully I will be as lucky as you, oh mighty one.

Just look at it as a kind of treasure hunt. Most shops will either have nothing or overpriced stuff, but once in a while you hit the jackpot.Elveen wrote:VALIANTS for a quater, how can you go wrongThe Mighty Drew wrote:I mean, come on. I know you were joking, but wasn't eBay created by some lady selling Beanie Babies?leonmallett wrote:Was ebay devised primarily for VALIANT collectors to pore over?Just look at it as a kind of treasure hunt. Just wait till you see a Harby Pink or Magnus #0 lying in some back issue bin with a buck a piece on both, you'll see what I mean then.Elveen wrote:Daniel Jackson wrote:Just look at it as a kind of treasure hunt. So today, I was at a local comic convention. I started my dig through various 50 cent boxes for all of the Valiants I missed.
I had a nice healthy stack of later X-O Manowar, Eternal Warrior, Bloodshot, and one or two Shadowman issues. Also found some VH2 stuff.
And I put almost all of it back.
I was sitting there, flipping through a couple of the later X-O and Eternal Warrior issues, and I had a moment of clarity.
"What the hell am I doing??????"
Granted, I'm at a place in my life right now where I shouldn't be spending any extra cash anyway, and I think that had alot to do with it as well. I was just flipping through it, and it seemed so far removed from what I had fallen in love with, that it just didn't seem to make any sense.
What I did do, was follow some advice that I read somewhere in this thread. There was a Bloodshot run that picked up from exactly where I left off. Numbers 15-21 to be exact. I also picked up the next issue of X-O I needed, Eternal Warrior Yearbook #2, and the Harbinger Trade. (For 50 cents!)
This seemed to make more sense to me. I think this is the best way for me to resume my Valiant collcting: sequentially from where I left off. Granted, it will take a hell of a lot longer, but It will be a good way for me to avoid buying poop.
Thanks for all the discussion and advice!

I agree about the getting all the issues, yep you have to go after golds and variants, and even though the CEAR is pricey I want one and will get one eventually.Elveen wrote:
But now I am FULLY involved in the VALIANT universe... I have already decided that I need to have all the books (VH1), just so I can read them all.
My questions are:
1) do I need the variants (golds, plants, reds, ect) if I can read the book, do I need the same book with a differetn cover?
2) Am I eventually going to get into VH2 and the Acclaim stuff.
JSYK, I am still undecided on ? #1, and I can see myself getting into VH2 after my VH1 is done...
We'll see......
My exposure to Vh2 was thru revelations and unity 2k because I got it for .50 a piece at a convention. Unless I see it at those prices, I won't mess with it in the future.

I've seen mention of the CEAR a few times - any chance of an explanation as to what this is, please?tarheelmarine wrote: I agree about the getting all the issues, yep you have to go after golds and variants, and even though the CEAR is pricey I want one and will get one eventually.

Chaos Effect Alpha Red, the "red" variant of this book. It's a cousin to the Unity #0 Red, in the fact that there were only 5000 or less made of this "dealer incentive," and they are the only red variants VALIANT produced. For some reason, the CEAR tends to bring more money than a Unity Red - I guess because they rarely come up for sale.leonmallett wrote:I've seen mention of the CEAR a few times - any chance of an explanation as to what this is, please?tarheelmarine wrote: I agree about the getting all the issues, yep you have to go after golds and variants, and even though the CEAR is pricey I want one and will get one eventually.

BTW - there is some off-the-wall thread with terms that seem to be only used here in our little world here. Maybe someone else can link it up for me, it was started rather recently.....

According to Greg's numbers, Unity Red's print run is somewhere between 2,500 and 5,000, while the CEAR is 2,500 or less. So the CEAR is supposedly a little scarcer. That doesn't make up for the fact that the Unity Red is cooler, though!slym2none wrote:
