There's almost always one of these on eBay. Heck, Zach has one in his store... but I seem to have had bad luck with these (I have actually had one in my hands on two different occaisons,) - thanks for the link though.

A&A gold - from a guy at a local farmers market who ran a little comic stand let me order from Previews when I was in grammer school/hs so I thought it was the coolest thing to have books put aside for me. He got one in his order and since I was the biggest Valiant guy that bought from him he threw it in my bag for $2.

That's pretty cool, Irish. One can pretty much read the entire letter!!!depluto wrote:Mine was an A&A gold. I sent a letter to VALIANT saying I thought the gold books were a bad idea. They changed my mind with this ...

The line in the letter "we intended for them to be free, we cannot control what happens to them when they hit the open market"..... I think they knew full well they were creating a premium for the retailers to resell. Saying any different is just a bunch of baloney.depluto wrote:Mine was an A&A gold. True story... and I finally have some people to brag to that can appreciate it!
The guy that owns the comic shop I go to is cool as hell. A few years ago, he had a special sale of comics, action figures, and other comic-related items in the backyard of his house. He invited all of his regulars to attend.
Basically, he needed to unload some of his massive stock, particularly the stuff that was cloging up his house and garage that he just did not have room for in the store. To give you an idea, when he lifted his garage door, you were met with a wall of white boxes. His basement lookled like the warehouse at the end of "Raiders of the Lost Ark". I do not exagerate.
Anyway we were all shopping and getting drunk. Back Issues were 10 cents each, or you could fill a long box for 10 bucks. Most of the comics were what we call "CHUD", named for a local annual convention that sells "Comics Here Under a Dollar", or Comics Highly UnDesired". All retailers in attendance are not allowed to sell anything for more than a buck. VH2 collectors, take note: This is Nirvana for you.
Anyway, while perusing the forty or fifty back issue boxes laid out in his back yard, I found:
- Eternal Warrior #1 Gold Variant
- HARD Corps #1 Gold Variant
- Archer and Armstrong 0 Gold Variant
- Archer and Armstrong 0, signed by Jim Shooter, with some sort of Certificate of Authenticity.
I was a good customer. I showed them to the guy to make sure he didn't make some sort of mistake. He looked at them, and put them back in my box. He said that if they were here, they were here for a reason. And he didn't have as much to drink as the rest of us by that time.
So I filled a long box for 10 bucks. Most of the comics were unbagged, so I had roughly 300 books in it. So that means I got those three books for about 3 cents each.
Excuse me while I bask in the fond memory for a mo'...

That having been said:.... "17) If you found a great VALIANT book for really, really cheap, then that's fantastic.

Armorines # 0 gold signed by the Calafiore & Gonzales.
It was my local store signing celebrating Dr. Mirage. They had 4-5 of the artists there, including Bernard Chang (Hi Bernard!). Forget what trivia question I answered to get it, but the one I remember from Bernard was simply: Name 8 members of the HARD Corps. (I couldn't do it.)
My best deal years later was getting a Unity 0 (red) from the same local store for full Overstreet ($4.00).
