The traveling art show was real. It was all show, no sell. The pieces that impressed me were the Archer & Armstrong mixed media covers from bws.

I emailed my buddy Bob Layton about the Valiant Traveling Art show. I asked him:

Do you have any information about this such as pictures of it or maybe a list of some of the goodies that were on display?

He answered:

I don't recall too much about the Valiant traveling art show. I believe
it was a display that went from comic shop to comic shop during each
year. Other than that, I couldn't tell you much about it. I was never
directly involved with that promotion.

I will email a few more of my Valiant friends to see if they have any information on it. :thumb:

With BWS art it sounds like it was pretty neat. What else do you remember being there?

I know it was going on, because a buddy of mine lent several pieces to the show that he had bought from artists. Unfortunately some weren't returned to him at the end of the project.

Nothing malicious, just a screw up, but he lost some expensive pieces.

I saw the traveling art show twice actually. Both times it was the same dozen or so pieces, just laid out on tables and left for the comic shop owner to guard for a while. I never saw anyone from Valiant actually with the artwork either time. I -THINK- the solar #1 cover was there but it was a couple of Archer & Armstrong pieces that impressed me most, especially the color cover to #3. A year or so after the tour I saw a piece or two from it for sale through sportsnet/coinnet from a well known Louisiana dealer. Thats all I remember about it, sorry.

Some people spend their whole lives believing in fairy tales, usually because they don't want to give up the fabulous prizes.

Ws that dealer "And Books Too"? Sportsnet station LA202 maybe? I seem to remember he's the guy that had the Solar #1 cover and sold it for $1500. Unfortunately before I got into collecting the stuff!
