What DUs have you completed ?

Comic universes no longer active, Bravura, Continuity, CrossGen, Future, Malibu, Ultraverse... and others that are 'no longer with us' today (or only recently brought back).

OK, I suck... I have a lot of Dead Universes that I am collecting but I do not have ONE that is 100% complete.

What Dead Universes do you have that are 100% complete ?

tricky question!

I personally feel like I am done with VALIANT, Defiant and Broadway.

VALIANT, the inventory list says I need Harbinger Trade Paperback 2nd printing, and Valiant Free View 1st print (the one I have is the 2nd). It also says I need Magnus #0 without a card, but I did purchase that so I know I have both versions. As for the other two, I'm not too worried about obtaining the different printings.

Defiant I am only missing a stand alone copy of Plasm #0 (meaning a copy that didn't come out of Previews), but it appears to be a VERY rare item. I think a couple guys might have one, but I've never seen one

Broadway I need the Fatale hardcover and Miracle on Broadway, again very pricey, very rare items that I can live with or without.

Still working on Ultraverse, Continuity and Catfish, might work on Triumphant and Lightning nude covers! :thumb:

I may be one or two issues from completing my Triumphant, and Defiant complete runs. I have complete runs of certain Lightning titles like Judgement Day, Perg, and Bloodfire, but that's not counting variants. I am working on completing my Valiant books, but I am far from done.

I guess that depends on your definition of what a DU is; is it all the titles of a particular publisher regardless of whether they interact in the same universe or is it just the interacting titles that constitute the DU, or what?

Because, as far as Valiant goes, I have one of everything that is super-hero or VH1 as we like to call it. I don't have all of the Nintendo books (I don't expect I will ever get them all either because I don't care to spend any real $$ for the no price variants or the hardcovers), nor do I have all of the wrestling books (same reason, don't care to spend anything to get them). So, am I complete or not?

As far as Acclaim goes, I'm not complete yet on just the super-hero related books, aka VH2. Eventually, I plan to get all the VH2 books. I also happen to have a lot of the non-superhero Acclaim books as well. Do we count these as part of the Acclaim DU or not? In any event, I don't plan to ever be complete on the Acclaims because I'm not buying 50 Magic the Gathering books and another 50 Classics Illustrated books (I'm also not going to bother seeking out the Disney books, Tick books or Baywatch magazines). So, what is complete here?

Broadway, ah an easy one. I have them all!

Comico, I have all of the Grendel related books put out by this publisher. Is he a DU to himself, or do I have to buy all of Comico's titles to have a DU collection? I don't collect any other Comico titles (although there were a few that I enjoyed back in the day).

Defiant, I have the basic titles and that's about all I need. So I will never be complete because I don't care to spend the $$ to get the rare issues.

That's about it. I don't collect any other DU's.

others might have different ideas, but I only consider something a "dead universe" if it's really a cohesive set of books where the different books crossover and the characters can intermingle. For instance, the VH1 universe is one separate "dead universe". Ultraverse and Bravura were put out by the same publisher, but they are two separate "universes". I don't think that's the same as collecting all the output from one company. Were Jonny Quest in the same "universe" as Robotech? I don't think you could make that case, even though both were published by Comico around the same time. "Dead title" would probably be more accurate.

Ha :o

Good question.

I try to collect full publishers runs rather than just the main 'universe' titles, so I have stuff like Nintendo books etc.

But I have failed to complete most publisher sets.

I do have a full set of Kandora :D. But then they did only publish 3 books

So far I have...

30 of the 33 Broadway Comics
592 of the 632 Crossgen Comics
65 of the 75 Speakeasy Comics
105 of the ? Innovation Comics
49 of the 56 TSR Comics
63 of the 108 Pacific Comics.
56 of the 64 Defiant Comics

I only collect the comics rather the the signed copies and other premiums.

As far as collecting all the normal comics from a company, I'm 100% on Defaint and Broadway. I don't really do limited variants, ect. I'm actually a few cards short of being 100% on Defiant cards and have 100% on Broadway newsletters.

Aren't too many other DUs I would want to complete, though I'm going try to get all the Mabilibu Protectors related comics (though not the titles they retroactively tied to them like Ex-Mutants and Dinosaurs for Hire)

Don't have any scans. I think there were 3 newsletters (4 at the most). One was basically reprinting the color ad section they did in Previews giving a run down on the characters in Knights on Broadway. The others were normal newsletters. Basically they sent them to anyone who wrote them a letter I think.

:!: Oh Man!

You just brought back a terrible memory. I used to have a whole huge box of these Previews with the book in NM stuck in the middle. I remember getting a whole bunch at a Convention for like free. I think it was Charlotte Heroes con or some similar convention. I also bought a few because this book came out before the Warriors of Plasm binder. It was the 1st look at Defiant and interest and speculation was very high. I certainly got my share of them. And I remember a big stink over this because it basically took steam away from the Binder because its the same book! It really hurt the Binder's uniqueness.

Anyway...those Previews were always a beotch to store. I had them in an X-Girlfriends closet (well, we lived together)....needless to say...when you have those break-ups....some things get left behind accidently. There went my Previews with the Plasm #0 in it! AAAAArrrgghhhh!

I know I had about 20 of them....HONEST! :!:

I just reread this...I see how you put "a Plasm #0 that DIDNT come out of the Previews.".....well, now I dont feel as bad. But I still wish I had those Previews back! :!:

Currently I have 0 complete DUs.

Thoughts and Images released Albedo, Command Review, and Zell Sworddancer (a 1 shot). Like most people out there, I am Albedo 1, 2, and all the variant prints of 0 short.

Mirage Studios is currently on TMNT Volume 4. So, it's not really a DU. More like a revived universe.

With Liberty Meadows currently being produced by Image, that would leave Insight Studios as a "DU". Again, with the comics currently being distributed this is kind of a revived universe.

When the Plasm #0 came out in Previews I definately had that feeling of 'oh cool, now I do not need the cards/binder to read that story'. What a terrible mistake on their part. I woudl bet that Shooter had NO part in that but it was dictated by The River Group...

As for dead publishers Whiz Comics and Fawcett Publications are the two Golden Age publishers/comics I am drawn to. However, I own 0 books from either publisher.

I wouldn't say that. It did save me from buying Plasm 0 but it did sell me on Dark Dominion (all $30+ dollars of it!). I know it got my best friend interested in Defiant (and the DD card set). It got a lot people in on the ground floor.

That was one of the things that kept me out of a lot of universes. If I couldn't get what story or stories they started with I wasn't going to bother. The $30+ price tag on the first Defiant "comic" was a bit steep for most fans. I think it was a nice "Welcome" mat for the fans. Plus maybe it eased any guilt they had for charging over $30 for one friggin "comic" (and a vital one at that)

I have a couple I thought were complete until the last couple of weeks (thanks to Brother J partly, :!: :P ). I have a handful of books to go on both Milestone and Impact and they will be done. So I am not there yet unfortunately.

I can appreciate that kind of frustration, man. I have been there myself a few times and this mind you was when there were DU lists being compiled. A lot of work went into the making of these list by depluto, Brother J and myself and espeically with Ultraverse, at one point we were finding something new every week. But then again, back then it was quite exciting to find something NEW to add to the list. Regrettably putting you another book behind being at 100% but none the less, exciting.

On a DU note I have been re-reading Impact like they are going out of fashion (wait that happened in 1992-93, if they were ever in fashion :P ), anyhoo it has led me to order some early '80's Red Circle (Archie, later Archie Adventure I think) this morning, and I think you need to accept the blame. You see, whilst I had my interest it was just that. Interest, nothing more. I tried mycomicshop at your recommendation through ebay, and darn it but the prices and shipping costs seemed good. So I am starting on another DU before finishing any of my current ones, and it is all your fault Knightt. Take the blame. I cannot. Because that is how I am going to explain it to my other half - that it isn't my fault, it's yours. Either that or I tell her it is a sickness I have....

I can imagine the (DUA) meeting now: "Hello, my name is Leon and I collect comics lines that are no longer published. I haven't gone a day without since..."

My priorities for the moment are Valiant and Ultraverse with Bravura as a minorly active DU. On the non-DU front, I want to assemble a full reading set of Grendel.

After that, I start finishing up 2099 and probably focusing a little more on Genesis. From there... who knows where my addiction will spread? I am sure it won't be anywhere Knightt hasn't already been.

I am wanting eventually to put together an entire Eternity/Malibu set.

This of course, will wait until I have moved and am squared away in the new digs. I have finished none.
