Since you mentioned that these are your doubles...
I'd say $500 is a nice number.

Personally, I don't think I'd sell them for less than $500,
but I don't believe I'd actually buy them for more than $350.
So, the buyer is offering you about 50% more than I would!

Thats exactly my problem too. Makes it hard to decide what to do. Even though they are doubles I can barely let myself let them go. Thank god there isnt a unity red or harby pink in there or Id have to blindfold myself and mail them

Whenever I think I might want to sell some of my doubles,
I ask myself what I would do if there were two options on a table...
Option A: Free copy of whatever book I'm thinking of selling
Option B: Cash in the amount of the value (minus fees/shipping) for the book.

99.9999% of the people in the world would take Option B...
but for some reason, I always imagine myself taking Option A.

As a result, I never sell.
(Maybe if the amount of cash in Option B were higher, I'd be tempted...)
:)

Sell it now, before the bubble bursts when people and dealers begin to flood the valiant market thinking they can get high prices too.

Its a clasic bell curve.

A: low prices, inventory sitting. (as soon as two years ago)
B: prices rise, inventory still some what available.
C: prices hit peak of bell, stock hard to find, dealers raise prices.
D: market flooded. dump hits ebay, dealers in stores=everyone trying to make a buck.
E: prices fall as stock is everywhere. (Ebay, stores, Boards)
F: prices fall to their stable level.

I think their stable level will rest about 10-20% from prices of two years ago. There will be exceptions: CGC rares, other rares, uniques.
This is classic, anybody want to argue this, hit google and type in "Bell Curve theory." I researched this in college; the signs are everywhere.

Sell now if your in it for cash; buy in a year or two when prices stabilize.

The only hook i can see to this story is if somebody publishes the characters again in mass. Ibooks/DarkHorse with Magnus wont help Valiant backissues in general, just his. but if the entire line is published, than hedge your sales and hold all books, FULL steam ahead!

Two great great opinions. 1 makes me want to sell everything I own. 2 makes me want to buy more. btw I hate you now greg because I probably will never be able to sell a book again. Ah but I have a plan. option A is no longer the books (which are doubles, triples etc) but instead cool valiant swag I can buy for $500 from say Bob Layton...

I would not hesitate to sell for anything over $400 for that lot (Assuming you paid much less).

Might some of the items double in the future? Sure. All of them? Maybe. Triple? no.

My opinion only!

If someone offered those books to me, I'd offer $100 for the whole thing, based on what *I* would pay, in good conscience. $500 is a GREAT price, currently, for this lot. I'd take it and run.

As for doubles...I HATE selling EVERYTHING, even if I get a killer price. I almost ALWAYS regret it later on down the line, and I'd rather not have too much of that going on. For example...I sold a dead 9.8 X-Men #140 in 2000 for $20. I advertised how great it was, that it was flawless, with bone white pages....and still only $20. Had I CGC'd it, I would likely have gotten $300-$400. Same thing with a 9.4 Spidey #94 in '98. $15. That hurt.

Likewise, I won't sell a single copy of Harbinger #1 for less than $100, which is totally unreasonable based on current market conditions, but that's my threshhold for the book. It is, after all, my #1 reason for being a Valiant fan. I have sold ONE in my entire life, in '93, for $65. But, I was young and naive then. ;)

I try not to sell anything, ever. I'm with Greg. I'd rather have another copy.

Make that three Monkeys....

Just off topic but there is a small computer repair company in Northern B.C. that my company deals with. They call themselves 'Three Monkeys'. I never asked why but I might have to this week!

Thanks to everyone who voted. The buyer paid for the books in 3 payments. I got the last one this week. We took off the rai 21 vvss and $50 from the total. I sent the books today. Two months after the inital quote I think they price for the lot is still a good one, some books have gone up, some down but having two months and most of the cash upfront I was able to get these books at low prices and didn't have to dip into my own collection too much :D
Thanks again to all who voted

<laughs>....well, barring the sales I made in 1993, I STILL haven't sold a single Valiant but Unity Red since then. :)
