Solar Creators Throughout The Ages

Post by ManofTheAtom »

Hey guys;

As part of the Solar 2004 one shot, we plan to do a one page dedicatory that will list the names of every creator associated with the character from its Gold Key days all the way through its Acclaim days.

Any help anyone here could give would be greatly appreciated.

If you could list the names of everyone that you guys know has worked on every Solar comic book (writers, pencilers, inkers, letterers, colorists, editors), that be great.

Mike,

Try the Grand Comic Book Database Project for this information -- www.comics.org

I don't know for sure whether all of the Gold Key, Valiant, and Acclaim creators are listed, but it would gve you a starting point. Also, Greg has creators listed in his comics gallery for the Valiant and Acclaim titles.

If you ask Greg ncely, he might even send you and excerpt from his database.

Seve

Very interesting site, thanks.

They seem to have some information (I'm still looking for more) for Gold Key's Doctor Solar, like writers' names and pencilers' names, as well as cover artists' names (at least for the first two issues.

This should help a lot, thanks!

I have not personally had the chance to work on a Solar comic, per se, but I would be honored if you would mention me. :)

OK... so that was a long shot.

I know that the Gold Key series, Dr. Solar, Man of the Atom, was penned by the great Paul S. Newman and edited by Matt Murphy. Bob Fujitani provided the interior pencils and covers for the first few issues--I think 5--were done by Richard Powers. I do not know who painted the remaining covers of that series... can't find it anywhere online, either.

That's pretty much what the site Steve sent me too says, yeah.

It lists Bill Harris as the editor of the first 4 issues and Richard Powers as the cover artists for the first 4.

The credits for the covers of 5 and 6 (so far) have ? marks.

Well, using Steve's link and Greg's site, I was able to put together as complete a list of everyone that was involved in the Solar comics from Gold Key, VALIANT and Acclaim.

The idea is to put them on the back cover of the issue over a reproduction of the last page of the issue along with the credits for the writers, pencilers and inkers that created the one shot.

How's that sound?

Ingenious!

I think it's the best you can do to give credit to the creators without specifically having a legal license to make the book.

Adding the most recent creators as just another link on the Solar chain. Well done.

So long as we give it our best shot, I doubt they'd be "mad" at us.
