I'll let Sean know and see what he says..although I think the mould is done already...ZephyrWasHOT!! wrote:Ok, let's qualify, as that's necessary: it looks great. Truly, everything's in proportion, color's great, everything...but does he have to be so....

I mean, it looks like Solar is saying "oh my gawd, girl, you SO did not just wear the same dress to prom that Sarah Stevens did!"
Either that, or he's just completing his 4 year course at Anastasia Beaverhausen's Charm School for girls....."here, dahling, THIS foundation is simply a MUST for the fall fashions!"
It's the HAND!!!
The hoar!!!

Before I commit to casting multiples of the Solar statue, I want to get opinions of the gayness factor brought up by ZephyrWasHot. Even though the molds have been made, the "limp wristed" hand in question is actually a separate mold all itself. If changes to the right hand are in order, it would really not be that much trouble.
There are a diffrent schools of thought when it comes to portraying Solar. Some draw him as a muscular Superman type, others see him as lythe and graceful wielding the power of a god so physical muscles aren't his thing. The statue shows Solar in the typical BWS pre-Raphaelite lyrical pose that has all the power in his fingertips to obliterate a planet.
The hand in question alludes to the famous Michelangelo portrayal of God imparting life into Adam with a touch of a fingertip. To me it was an attempt to show power with or through grace.
I realise that how a work of art comes across is very subjective, and it is often hard to control how a piece is perceived. The reason why we show works in progress on this site is to make sure that piece develops on course with its intent. That is where you guys come in. In fact, I can only produce an armfull of these statues so it is likely that you guys will be the only people that ever receive one. If you don't want to look up and see a red flaming homo on your mantle, then by all means lets do something about it because we can. After all, its your hundred bucks I'm after.
I think a poll is in order. I can change the hand to close the space between his fingers and the thumb and align them directly forward as if he is about to unleash a blast beam (ala Nexus), or leave it as is.
Let me know your thoughts.

As I stated before, this is the Solar who can fix things with a touch. Just reaching out his hand. That you captured this so clearly that the question needs to be brought up at all, is a sign of the strength of the design. It goes beyond super hero blast beam and actually makes the viewer think about the Solar comics. If the intended audience is those remembering the stories, I recommend leaving it as is. On these boards I would expect that to be the bigger audience, in the general public probably not. Well, that's just my thoughts, a poll might be the best indicator.Sean Chen wrote:I think a poll is in order. Some people spend their whole lives believing in fairy tales, usually because they don't want to give up the fabulous prizes.

I guess I'm in the minority here. I'd like a more manly hand pose. Although I do see the whole Michaelangelo thing going on there and think it looks cool, it makes me think the next thing Solar would do is snap his fingers and say, "Uh, uh, girlfriend, you betta not talk bout my baby daddy."
I think the tilting of his head is enough to show the BWS influence, but either way is fine by me. I don't think the open hand thing would work as well if this was ever to be mass-produced though.
